Barney Eaton
I say take the money for the tires and get an airline ticket and get out of the cold! You can also make big $$ by selling your snow shoes, snow shovel, heavy jackets, deicer, etc.You are welcome to visit but please do not come to Texas as we are getting full. Guest Reatta1
Unless you live someplace, like Oregon, where they require by law, chains or traction tires in snow zones, I would just get a real good set of all season radials. When they have the requirements posted here I throw a set of chains in the trunk just to be able to show the cop if I get stopped. I've never been stopped or had a problem getting over the passes with just my real good all season radials. I personaly think studded tires should be outlawed. Our roads and streets around here are so badly damaged from people who drive on bare pavement all winter long with studded tires that it's pathetic. When it rains you are driving in two inches or better of water that collects in the 'track'.
Guest EDBSO
For as long as I can remember I have always run 4 snow tires as has my father!Part of my attitude is that I am going to keep a car through at least 2 sets of tires so I will be spending money on the second set so why not start off with a set of snows. The improvement in handling is huge.As you appear to be reluctant to accept the tire supplier's judgement I would strongly recommend just get two tires. Drive it for 2 blocks extremely cautiously and then you will make your way back and purchase the other two tires. No snows are better than 2 snow tires. Put 2 snows on the front and the rear will swap places with the front in hard braking. Even in a slow cautious turn the rear will break away and you have huge oversteer or simply spin out.Put two snows on the rear and during braking the fronts almost immediately lock up and you have no steering. Go into a cornet the rears want to turn but the fronts don't have any grip and even though you turn the wheel the car doesn't turn.Certainly try only 2 BUT I guarantee you you will be begging for the other two snows, guaranteed!GO AHEAD, I DARE YOU TO CLICK ON THE PHOTO!!!!! Guest EDBSO
If the link works that is what 14 feet of snow looks like at the end of winter.
serb
I have not used winter tires in the last 30-35 years. If you drive according to the conditions you can handle the car. All season radials work for me. Buffalo has been known from time to time to have a bit of snow.stevo
Guest Mike_s
Tirerack did some testing when only using 2 snow/winter tires, you may want to check it out. Keep in mind though they are in the business of selling tires
