Hello! I think I have an easy question here. Is the side molding that runs from the hood, down both doors and ends on the rear quarter panel the same on the Special Series 40 Trunkback and the Special Series 40 Slantback? Thanks for your time!

I have not seen the two styles side by side. But, from all the times I remember seeing the cars it seems the only possible difference would be the rear quarters. From the photos I have seen they appear to be the same. The reason I ask is that I am looking for the rear drivers side quarter trim on my 1937 Series 40 trunkback. I have located one online on a slantback but the lady does not know if they are the same. I do not want to spend the money if it isn't going to work. I also do not want to risk losing out on it if it will work. Please help! Thanks again!

I had hoped somebody else would have answered your question, because I don't know for sure. I think whether it is a two or four door would be more important than the type of trunk. The molding ends before it gets to the trunk. My suggestion would be if the length is correct try it.

Dear Leo:

A check of my 1941 Master Parts book indicates that they are NOT the same. In parts group 12.116, the book gives 4075517 as the part number for a Model 47 4 door slantback and 4074519 as the part number for a Model 41 4 door trunkback. The ones from a Century series 60 would work in the same way. Altogether, there are 7 listed part numbers for 1937 series 40 cars, so you need to be careful. The part numbers for a model 44 2 door slantback are 4074511 RT, and 4074512 LT and for a model 48 trunkback 4074514. For a 40C 4 door convertible, the part number is 4074513.

Regards, Dave Corbin
