Gary_Brooks
Following an full engine detail at a restoration shop, my 1947 Lincoln V12 had no power. Unfortunately, the shop went out of business and offered little help resolving the problem. Since then, I've had the coil, distributor and generator rebuilt, replaced the battery and starter and we still have the same problem. It starts great with all cylinders firing, but just does not have the power it did prior to the engine detail.Any advice on how to further troubleshoot and/or resolve this problem would be appreciated. Thanks,Gary
abelincoln
Gary:This seems to be a common problem. A few questions to ask:Does the engine turn freely after the rebuild? Could something be too tight? Are the rings doing their job? Check the compression. Is the voltage about equal on both points? Should see about 3 volts at the coil terminals with engine running. Points tend to stick or non-conduct after sitting a long time. Are your electrical grounds OK? If you have a 6 volt system, you need a big ground strap. If electrical is OK, you also need enough gas. Check lines from tank, fuel pump, carb float level, etc. Alcohol in gas attracts water, leads to rust, and evaporation.Abe
Guest imported_V12Bill
No power, smooth running engine, sounds like engine is running on one bank of cylinders. Short out a spark plug. If there is no spark , try others on that same bank. If there is no spark on any plug on that bank you have a problem with a condensor, resistor or one set of points. The engine will run on one bank but there is very little power.
peecher
And along with what Bill said; one side of the rotor could be shorting if you find that it's only running on one bank.
