gordon140
For my 1989 Reatta, I have removed the Harmonic Balancer Bolt, but the Balancer will not pull off. I have been working from above the engine and I did not remove the passenger side tire or inner fender splash shield, but don't know why this would matter.I have tried hitting the metal circumference with a hammer, with no effect. From above, I can't seem to find a safe place to place screw drivers from behind the balancer to pry.Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? harry yarnell
The best way to access the HB, is thru the wheel well. Don't waste your time from the top. The '89 should slip off. The later motors (code L?) had to be removed with a puller.
Guest campolojr
You may have a seared key but if your replacing your whole harmonic balencer you can pry anywhere just dont turn it over if you bend the fins in the back. also try getting you hands on a puller. Guest F14CRAZY
Try a couple of those really big orange screwdrivers. We buy them by the half dozen at Harbor Freight

Vincent Vega
Jim, It's Penetrating oil. WD-40 is crap compared to it.
Reatta45
Vincent is right… WD40 is not a penetrating oil, it is not even a fair lubricant, tho many people use it for that. PB blaster should loosen things up for you. KennyV.
Vincent Vega
It's designed for Water Displacement. The first 39 attempts failed to do a good job. They got it right on number 40. hence WD-40. You should have tried Preparation-F. Not good.

Guest alex_houston
I had one that was like yours. The bolt apparently had not been tight enough and the keyway in the balancer had wobbled out. The key was OK. Problem was the keyway was about 1/4 inch too wide and the way out no longer matched up with the key.Keep at it, it will eventually come off with enough twisting, pulling, and cussing. Machiner 55
I'm sure some are a bit tired of seeing this, but for you Jim I'll post it again.
