Guest 1950Buick
Can anyone identify the factory name of the lower color on this '50 Riviera? I can't find it in any '50 Buick color charts. It could be a carry over from '49. Thanks.
Dynaflash8
I believe the car has been repainted, possibly 1956 Tahiti Coral. Look on the firewall and see what the paint number is and get back to me.
Rick Hoover
I also believe the color to be 1956 Tahiti Coral as Earl mentioned. This photo has been well published in several magazines and books over the years and is at least 20 years old. I have it in my State Farm Insurance 50th Anniversary, History of the Automobile book from 1989. Not saying GM hasn't painted some vehicles with certain experimental colors that weren't put into production until years later, as I know that to be true, but I highly doubt this is the case with this car. Looks good though!
Guest 1950Buick
I learned that this was indeed a factory painted car, however it was not a production 1950 Buick color. This particular Buick Riviera was one of several special vehicles produced for the "Mid-Century Motorama" show at New York's Waldorf-Astoria in 1950. It was painted a "salmon" color and upholstered in pink broadcloth and fabric.Collectible Automobile failed to note this fact in the August '95 issue.
