Upcoming RM Auctions '37 LZ Two-Door

Recommended Posts

A local collector in a suburb of Fort Worth will be auctioning most of his collection in April. Included is a very nice appearing '37 LZ two-door sedan. I thought there may be interest here if for nothing other than watching for the results. Here's the link:

A pretty nice 4 door 36 went for $40K at RM in West Palm or Ft. Lauderdale last year. Maybe we are starting to see the popularity and hence the price starting to rise on the pre-war cars. They have been real bargains for quite a while now.

Should be interesting where it ends up. I believe the same car sold for something like 80K a couple years ago. The "coupe sedans" are the rarest bodystyles, but most folks probably won't know that. The car is very well done, but a few of the details aren't technically concours correct. We'll see...

What you need to remember here is that this "Coupe-Sedan" is probably the rarest body style of the early Lincoln Zephyrs and, as such, commands a high price. It was produced only in 1936 through 1939, and became the "5-window" or "Club Coupe" in 1940.

Why Lincoln didn't market the car as a "Tudor Sedan" like Fords is anybody's guess, but they didn't sell very well.

Allen Decker, LZOC member, customized a 1938 Zephyr 4-door sedan into a 2-door. He shortened the body, chopped the top, lengthened the doors and made them into "suicide" doors. Allen drives the car, powered by a 302 Ford, regularly.
