oil level stick

I am ready to put my engine back togather after replaceing thr rings and bearings. I have a new dipstick and float. what is the procedure for installing it?

Pete, feed the float rod up thru the passage on the left side of #3 main bearing cap and secure it with some small clamp at he top where it comes thru manifold surface. When you get the pan in position and within about 2 or 3 inches from meeting the lower pan rail of the engine drop the float into the pan. This way you'll be sure it won't get hung up on th edge of the baffle in the pan if you should move it side to side while lifting it in place. Be sure it drops to the bottom of the pan past the baffle. A transmission jack might be real useful in positioning and lifting the pan up. You want to be real careful and have it lined up as close as possible especially in the last 1" or so. It's important to keep the pan aligned so that the rear of the pan seals properly. I'm assuming you're doing this with the engine in the car.
