Richard S
Noted that when on upgrade in 4th and rpms drop, not only did the a/c go off, but the fan blower as well until the car picked up power again. Is this normal?
padgett
Do not think so, if lose vaccuum from long grade (have had happen on different car) the vent may switch to the defrost position but the blower shouldn't turn off.
padgett
Yes, is under the air filter & hose goes to cruise control and a/c feed.
Richard S
Will have to check it, although if the same hose controls the cruise, things are OK. Cruise performed flawlessly, gamely trying to keep the car at 75 in 4th up the steeper grades. Not much chance tho, since 75 is barely at 2300 rpm. Richard S
Oh, interesting point. Most cars have a cannister in some cranny that "stores" vacuum. Does the Reatta?
Don B.
Back in the early '80's there was a vacume
activated switch that could be installed on
the a/c power. It would shut off the compressor to save gas under full throttle.
Any chance there is one on your car?
Richard S
Only if it is a stock item on the 90. If it were, seems to me the owners manual should mention that it will happen.
Barney Eaton
Checking the service manual, the only reference is the a/c will cut out for up to 20 seconds if the throttle position sensor is opened.
This is normally done to kick out the compressor (helps performance) during passing. It sounds like you may have a bad connection or the TPS is bad or out of adjustment.
