'48 DeSoto Hood Hinge Spring

Stupid question: Should my '48 have a spring on each hinge, or just one on the passenger side as I have now. I usually wouldn't ask such a dumb question....well maybe I would, but I don't seem to have any info, and by the looks of the hinges, the passenger side has a notch, for the spring, on the cowl mount and the drives side doesn't.

If everything wasn't so rusted away, maybe I could figure this out myself.

I would post this under the De Soto section, but there isn't much activity there.
