Good stuff Peter, thanks - we're vacationing in Florida this March / April and it looks like I'm not too far from a couple of them that I haven't seen already.

We visited Don Garlits' museum a couple of vacations ago - well worth the visit, and it was on this visit we discovered the American term "down a ways". The one in Deer Lodge Mt. has a superior 1950's and before collection, that I have ever seen! they have many teen and 20's cars. Definetly on par with or better than the one in Reno, because you can get close and see in the windows,etc.

I have converted the museum list to a Point Of Interest file for my TomTom GPS. If anyone wants it here is a pointer to the file. The icon could be better, but it is recognizable. This is for the latest versions of TomTom that uses the .ov2 files

If anyone with a different GPS wants a POI file I will attempt to convert the data with some software I have, just ask.

I got an email today about a new museum being built in Alaska. It's the Fountainhead Antique Auto Collection in Fairbanks, Alaska

Not open yet, but apparently under construction with opening planned for 2009.

Peter, I don't know how old the information is on this, but Branson Hill Road, Randleman North Carolina may not be the correct address.

Branson Hill Road is where Lee Petty's house, and the original home of Petty Enterprises is, and that is actually in Level Cross, North Carolina. Back when Lee Petty was alive, the Museum was at the family compound in Level Cross. As recent as four years ago, they had moved the Museum into a building in downtown Randleman, North Carolina.

With the Petty's moving the shop to Charlotte, the museum may have been moved back into Petty Enterprises on Branson Hill Road. Level Cross is where the shop actually is, but if there isn't a post office in Level Cross, then Randleman may be the correct address.

In either case, I'm not trying to put anyone in a spot, but if the Museum is still in Randleman, and a person goes to Branson Hill Road, you'll be putting people off the path by about 5-10 miles.

Another museum that is well worth the mention is Richard Childress Racing Museum in Welcome, North Carolina. After Dale Earnhardt was killed, they basically closed the entire shop and turned it into a museum. They left toolboxes, race cars, engine dynos, engines, hauler, etc. in the building. Even if you were never a Dale Earnhardt fan (I wasn't), this museum is very well done. The curator of the museum is Danny "Chocolate" Myers who was Earnhardt's longtime gas man. Another interesting point is that they have all of the animals that Dale Earnhart and Richard Childress had shot on their various hunting trips mounted.

Anyone coming to Canada (Southern Ontario) should see the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village (25 miles from Detroit, Mi). Currently on display is Lindberg's Packard phaeton parade car for the next year.

The effort is supported by Members and Volunteers and came together as a goal set out by the then membership way back in 1954.
