Hank 0
Tried to remove the trim piece from around the shifter area, removed the back screw and the one under the ashtray and the back end is free, however the front is stuck very rigidlt, dooes the front lift up or back from the dash? have tried both to the point of "almost" breaking the plastic. Acts like it has been glued down.. If so out comes the dremel tool and would be looking for a replacement. Any one have one?? Thanks Hank
63viking 106
The black piece separates from the chrome trim and there are two more screws up at the front end.
alex_houston 0
On my '90 I had to remove the center tray in the dash to get access to the front screws after removing the black insert.
Ronnie 1,555
There are two trim pieces around the shifter. One is the top part that has the rectangular hole for the shifter and the shift position indicator. It snaps into the bottom part that has the ashtray in it. Carefully pry the top part off the bottom part and you will see two screws holding the front of the bottom part.

steveskyhawk 2
Does an 90-91 come apart the same as a 88-89?
Roadster90 8
Wonder what has happened to Brian (think that was his name....can't even remember his forum handle.....think he had a Maroon coupe)....he is/was one of our younger members that did an OUTSTANDING Tutoral on the R & R of the shift console/bezels.Then Mark Kuklok did OUTSTANDING Tutorals on rebuilding or restoring the shift consoles on both versions..... 88-90 and 90-91).Try some searches in the history search function of the forum under different wording.....both tutorals are very worthwhile with great photographs and instructions...
