TC Wanted

Wanted a lower mileage well cared for TC with full documentation and no needs. NON-SMOKING and rust-free cars only. I am not sure what happened to my early post nor do I know what happened to my earlier registration, but, at any rate, the interest continues. I am in the SE.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks for the response. Those sound like exceptional finds and a trip to Florida is always welcomed this time of year.

In that I am looking for a daily around town driver, they would most likely be priced beyond what I would hope to pay.

My first hunt for a nice TC was limited to a 16 valve 5 speed. Having found a couple of performance cars since then I am now seeking something more sedate.

I do not like dark interiors nor burgundy or red exteriors. Other than that I am pretty open. The only definites are no rust, no smoking and mileage of less than 85K or so.

It's too bad you missed my TC. It now lives in Canada and the new owner called me yesterday to let me know he's taking great care of it. You might be interested in the fact that a friend of mine has a TC he's gonna sell for about $3000. and it is quite clean with no accidents or rust. Although it's not at the level of mine, it is a nice car with a few more miles on it than mine (around 70000)and would be a great driver. It's yellow w/ginger.

Thanks for the responses.

ScottDWAH I am sure the new owner of your car is quite happy. Having visited Canada a couple of times, I noticed they seem to have an appreciation for older rust free American cars. Also, I would like to get in touch with your friend that is selling his. There is a yellow on ginger in VA I am looking into. I wonder if it is the same one.

TwinCamFan I was looking for a black on black or yellow on ginger twin cam awhile ago. I drifted back to my TVR roots and bought a low mileage black on cream with black piping 1986 (last full year imported). A short while later I replaced my everyday car with a 6 speed 300 hp Volvo R wagon in titanium over metallic blue leather. I find the Volvo more aesthetically pleasing than the model it replaced and much, much faster, but I do not enjoy its larger turning diameter, front spoiler prone to leaving chunks behind after parking and lessoned visibility around town. I think a Merkur Scorpio or Chrysler TC might fill the bill for that, thus my renewed quest.

Thanks again

Tom

As a long time Volvo owner I have very mixed feelings about it. On the whole like it better than the BMW, Saab or Audi S4 alternatives I considered. It does a fine job delivering on performance, pleasing tactile qualities and styling. It is in the areas Volvos were known for in the past it does not quite measure up.

Since it has been owned by ford for the last few years, I was just waiting to hear complaints referring to the loss of integrity and the instigation of US auto makers stupidity

LouZ My daughter just called from California complaining how her Miata front spoiler keeps getting caught on things and how she can not see the front corners of the car. These are two of the major complaints I have with my new Volvo R. The only thing these two cars would seem to have in common is Ford.

TwinCamFan I have had three over the years. If there is a car that captures me it is the TVR, probably the 3000s most of all. Not possessing a classic beauty its mission is more to terrorize the villagers. It is not what my Stag claimed to be: "The Gentleman's Roadster" in any way.

Now how about the 90 TC?

I never meant to say a TVR was beautiful nor have I ever heard of one being so called. In fact,I felt my 3000s looked a bit like a dead frog's head. What I meant was that its no frills approach to life was much like mine (at a younger age) but the later models strayed from that.

89TC-16V

Maybe the only thing they have in common is that they hold a spot on my "Cars I have not owned but would have liked to have" list.

In comparing the two it is odd how the gorgeousness wood in the TC is plastic and some of the flimsiest plastic I have seen in any car is in the Scorpio right next to a high quality genuine wood.

I would interested in contact information for those Scorpios.

Thanks

Tom

Miami, there is a garage up the street from me that seems to specialise in Scorpios and XR4Ti cars and seems to have several un-tagged cars around at any given time. I woud imagine he fixes them up and sells them. I'm in VA and can find out the contact info for the garage if you would like.

TVR,

It seems to me that you have passed up a few really good TC's and none all that far away from you. You've said for a long time that you're looking for a good

no-disappointment TC. But,are you really looking for one and willing to spend the money for a nice TC? It might be worth your time to take the time to see one advertised by a member on these pages. There are many good people that are selling really good cars. You may be suprised!

Thanks for the observation and suggestions. While I have been into uncommon cars and long distance buying for quite awhile I do lack an in depth knowledge of TCs. Any help is appreciated.

I am still waiting to hear from your Virgina friend with the TC you mentioned as being a lessor car than the one that was yours. Have they decided not to sell? I was in touch with a nonenthusiast Virginia dealer but doubt if that is the one you were recommending.

I have also come across two or three others within a few hundred miles that sounded interesting and made an offer on what I believe to be the nicest of that group. The offer was not accepted, but I note the the car has not changed hands either.

As a more informed consumer (thanks to car-chick's referral), I am no longer considering a Scorpio but I am not locked into a TC. I did pass on some fine TCs, all of which were not near by, in the past when I picked up alternative cars. Since my last search for a TC I have bought a number of Bertone Coupes and R Volvos and a Dakota convertible. I am somewhat of a serial collector with a wide range of automotive interests.

By the way, there is (or given the exchange rate with those Canadian dollars maybe "was" is the proper tense) a quite nice sounding Avanti with mileage in the 30s or 40s up around you in the $6,000 range.

Thanks again

Thanks for the response. I have heard eBay is the best way to find what it is really worth but I much prefer getting to know the previous owners. Best of luck with your auction. If you do not get your price get back in touch.

The gains I had hoped to put into a nice TC are no more. That which the stock market gives the stock market takes away. Come to think about it, I believe this may have been what happened the last time I went TC hunting.

Thank you all for the leads and responses. I believe I will need a bit of regrouping time. Maybe after November....

What can I say, honest guy I guess.

When the stock market is up I try to sell and reward myself with a toy. I seem to have missed my chance this go round. There will be another.

TVR,

Just in case you're still interested the TC out here is still for sale...around $3000 and i know he'll take less.

Like i stated a while ago it really is a clean car with aroung 70000 miles on it. The guy has taken good care of it, service stuff, synthetic oil, that kind of thing but he's not real pro-active in advertising it. It's in Michigan by me by the way and not in VA like you originally thought. Take care. I can follow up and get contact info for you. Scott

I have just put my TC on the market for the first time. I am the second owner - first was my neighbor. 1990, Yellow/black/black, 18,000 miles, all original except battery. Always stored in heated garage (both owners)and never has seen rain or snow. As perfect an original as you will find. I am asking $12,000 O/B/O. Let me know if you would like more info.

Mistakenly my post was taken as a request for a TC when in fact we have a 4 cylinder 1989 2.2 liter TC original paint mint condition, color "Light Yellow Pearl" which was Iacocca's'S favorite color! DeTomaso-designed 16v DOHC Turbocharged and Intercooled 200bhp built in Italy. Never driven in snow or ice, always garaged. Service book up to date. One owner, collectors dream, even has original umbrella! Miles high 70's but most highway miles between Nebraska and Arizona. Also, NEVER SMOKED IN! 10,000. Any one interested?
