Brian S
I'm looking for a shop, possible contacts, advice or parts to build up a steering column for a 1910 era car. It's for a custom project car I have been working on for the past 7 years. It will have 16 3/4" to 17" wood wheel, brass spider and 1 1/2" brass column. If I use the spider that I have, it will need a 1 1/16" diameter shaft, (where it fits spider) and needs to be at least 40" long. The bottom of shaft detail will not matter (if a used part) as it will connect to a U-joint. Top will need to fit to spider, thread for nut, keyway, etc.Was there a common brass washer that went under nut to cover keyway and larger hole? Guess I could make one...unless available would be much easier.I also may need someone that could machine a 2"x2" OSD 1/4" thick brass "cup" for top of column tube.I have more detailed information & photos on a web site I put together today.http://www.marindirect.com/column/AACA member for 35 years! (guess I should have bought the lifetime membership). Thanks!
