Zimmy
We are just beginning to restore my 1965 Riviera. We have the body off of the frame and now we are starting to look for parts. The first problem we have is that the rear trunk that the body bolts to is bad. Are there any replacement parts for that piece? Would Impala be similar? gungeey
Zimmy,Any pics of the area you are talking about? Under the taillights on the shelf or up near the corner of the trunk pan where the wheelwell meet? Hopefully the mounting area on the shelf, a run of stock and most any perches will do. The mounts up with the rear springs will be a tad more tedious and require more precision. Post some digital pics of your problem aeas and show the west coast guys what rust looks like..But your Riv has a cruciform "X"frame and I would think the Chebby would be a conventional box style.Have fun, Steve
tim63riv
Zimmy,The 64 and older Full Size Chevy's are X frame, they went to perimeter frame in 65. Barron Knight says he used a repop truck floor froma 64 to 67 Chevelle in a 1st Gen Riviera with very minimal modifications. I'm not sure if the body mounts are included with the trunk floor or not, might be worth looking into!Tim
RivNut
Zimmy,If you're talking about the area I think you are, it's the area where the Riv has an enclosed cup on the body where the body bolt attaches; right next to the wheel tub. It's notorious for collecting dirt and water and then rusting out. It gets it from the bottom and it can also be affected from the top if the seal on your back window is broken or the corners of the rear window housing are rusted away (another notorious place on these cars.) I've been able to get the pieces of the floor pan cut away to include that cup from Wheatbelt Antiques in Oklahoma. They have a link on the restoration page of the ROA website. Ken is very knowledgeable about how to cut out these pieces. There are other 'desert' suppliers in the Southwest who should be able to supply you with rust free pieces. I know of nothing aftermarket especially for the Riv and I'm not familiar with any other GM interchanges. Keep us informed.
