Does anyone know if there was an accessory or optional steering wheel available for the 1971 Riviera?

Thanks

When they were new, the concept of just squeezing the steering wheel to blow the horn was pretty neat . . . and a safety feature for some. In reality, though, the standard "horn ring" steering wheels stood the test of time better, even when the vehicles were newer. Chrysler and Ford had their own versions, too.

The horn switch, being on the inner surface of the steering wheel might have been actuated when some were using their fingers to turn the wheel rather than grabbing the wheel normally. Plus, to replace the switch could be a trying ordeal as it had to slide into a slot in the wheel itself . . . being positioned correctly as it slid in the groove rather than snapping in. Now, finding a good switch can be problematic. There is a business that rebuilds these wheels . . . for a good price, but their website seems to indicate they know what they're doing.

The particular rim-blow option only lasted a few years. The "normal" steering wheel horn buttons (or places to press on the trim pad) eventually won out. More conventional technology to work on, too, which can be a plus in an older vehicle.

Just some thoughts,
