1903 New York to Pittsburgh NAAM endurance test

Hi- to all- great idea for having a collectibles forum- can anyone tell me more about the attached medallion? About 2 inches in diameter, either brass or gold plated, National Ass'n of Automobile Mfgr's, Endurance Test, New York to Pittsburgh, October 7 to 15 1903; reverse says Awarded to The George N. Pierce Co. for Meritorius Performance of Pierce car under conditions of unprecedented severity (and the references to Pierce are stamped, all else is cast into medallion).

Does anyone have others of this medallion, same or other make cars? How many were awarded to each team? More history on this endurance test?

The Free Library of Philadelphia Automotive Collection has a complete archive of MoToR magazines starting from issue one. Published by Chilton, I'd recommend you get in touch with their very competent curator, Ms. Kim Bravo, and see what she can dig up for you.
