  1. Hi gang, My '64 has an aftermarket carb (Edelbrock 750). I had no kickdown for a while, so I recently fabricated a simple bracket and hooked up one of these "pull-type" B&M downshift switches: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20297 It now works well on the freeway, downshifting to 2nd (and staying in 2nd!) until about 70mph. But for some reason, it won't kick down to 1st. If I'm cruising casually around town, around 30 mph, and then step on it, it will kick down to 2nd but not down to 1st. 1st gear is good up until about 40mph, so I have no idea why it's not kicking all the way down. Any thoughts? Is this an oddity of the ST400 tranny? thanks for any info, jeff
  2. I am looking for a part highlighted in the picture below. It is a linkage. It and one 33x4 tire is all i need to have a driving car.
  3. I am needing a transmission dipstick. The person I bought the car from mustve took/lost it because all thats there is a mtn dew can in its place. Im not sure if all are universal for a 57, but mine is a Special 4dr HT with the dynaflow. Thank you Brandon.
  4. Hey all.... I am new to the forum and have a 63 Rivi I bought 38 years ago in 1976. My wife says fix it up or get rid of it... and WHO am I to argue? We have gone through the engine, transmission, drive line, suspension, and most recently the rear end. The car is okay to drive around town, but at above 1800 rpm or about 55 - 60 mph the car begins to shudder. By process of elimination we believe the torque converter is creating the vibration, which can be felt with the car in park or driving. This is an early production '63, (120 mph speedo, smooth dash etc), mated to the twin turbine dynaflow. QUESTION: Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on either a good shop to rebuild the torque converter, or where replacement parts may be found? Thanks for your help in advance! 63 Rivi Owner in Tennessee

Gas in oil / Modulator Valve?

I have just acquired this 51 Chieftain Deluxe 4dr sedan. I had went through and replaced the fuel lines, cleaned the tank, tore the 2bbl Carter carb apart also tore the non working fuel pump apart and cleaned both the carb and dual diaphragm pump. The oil in the car was super thin from gas getting into it somehow? The trans (original, not sure of the speed) wouldn't go into the higher gear all of the time (more not often than often). Motor purred like a cat up until I had pushed the motor a little to see if the shifting problem was vacuum related. Motor has picked up a knocking noise while under acceleration but goes away after shift. What could be the problem there? Rod, Valve, Lifter??? Trans just doesn't seem to want to shift to higher gear or over drive if there is. Is there a modulator valve or vacuum lines to control this trans? TV linkage seems to be fine with very little play. Any help would be greatly appreciated as there is very little information out there on either the Pontiac straight 8 or the early Hydra-Matic. Thank you in advance and thank you for accepting me into this forum.

  11. Hello I have a 1963 Buick riviera with the 401 CI Nailhead engine and the car has a Dynaflow 2 speed transmission and I would like to swap it out for a Super turbine 400 transmission. I know that the Super turbine 400 was standard in the 1964 and 1965 Rivieras but does anyone know if the Super turbine 400 transmission was longer then the Dynaflow and if the 1964 to 1965 Rivieras used a shorter driveshaft? Because if that is the case I would have to change the driveshaft too. Thanks for any help.

  18. I'd like to know, if anybody knows, if you have some advices about the lubrication. Due to this problem I have also a overheating problem due to the low lubrification inflow. 19. Hi folks! Sorry if this has been addressed recently, but my searching didn't find anything. When my '48 Windsor is warmed up, I notice that it takes a while for the transmission to shift to the next speed after I let up on the accelerator. When the engine is cold, it's an immediate response, but when it's warmed up (especially on a hot day) it can take 4-5 seconds. Much too long in traffic. What would be causing this? Is it an easy fix? Thanks!

  25. Hello folks, I had a question I am trying to rebuild my 64 Buick Riviera's transmission. Looking for an master overhaul kit, but when I do most sites sell a TH-400 kit, even though 64 Rivi's came with a ST-400. What is the difference between a TH-400 vs ST-400 or is there any? I just don't want to buy a kit and find out their are a slight difference. Most places had really bad return policies. If anyone can help would greatly appreciate it. thanks!
