  1. On Saturday my "new" 89 Red/Ginger/Ginger 16V California TC showed up. I've had an 8V for several years (Jeffn, That's the C/G/G one I bought from you and still running great if you're watching this group) but this one was in such good cosmetic shape that I just had to have it. Wow, what a difference from the 8V! I knew it would be faster, but this is amazing. Has a few issues, leaking oil quite a bit, but that may be related to oil in the airbox coming through the valve cover breather line; I'm working on that. Running rich too - failed emissions on CO and Hydrocarbons, suspecting the O2 sensor (there was a code 21 O2 sensor error in the SMEC, but that could have been leftover from before a new O2 sensor [by the look of it] was put in - cleared the code and it hasn't come back) although an air-fuel ratio gauge on it never goes to rich at all, so it may be bad... I will figure all that out, but my question for those of you who have or have had a 16V is this - what is the standard max boost for a stock engine/SMEC? I put a boost gauge on it and took it out to see, and at WOT it jumps right up to 13psi! I was surprised because my 8V (with stock SMEC in place) never goes above 7 or 8. I've even heard the stock Blow Off Valve pops off it's seat above 7psi. But here's this 16V running right along at 13... I know it's a non-cal'd SMEC as I opened it up and no new EPROM in sight... Is it supposed to go this high, or is the wastegate not opening? I thought about pulling the wastegate control off to see if it would go higher, but I'd rather hear from someone who knows these engines first... Thanks, Jim
