Well, I have driven my 1938 Plymouth for years without seat belts, even though I would never drive my 350-Z without them. What is the general consenus? I am now getting her back on the road and I live in Atlanta, not the friendliest place to drive. I ask this because this past weekend a Model A was Destroyed by a VW and the driver was killed and his wife is in critical condition. I would bet they had no seat belts. Do you all have seat belts installed? Do you wear them? Greg
I am writing an article about classic car safety and wanted to touch on the point of how car show judges handle safety features that have been added to classic cars. Am I correct in saying that AACA will not deduct points if a safety feature has been added to comply with traffic laws? I appreciate any help on this!
The '63 I purchased last fall appears to have aftermarket black lap belts installed in the front seats. The problem? They appear to be adjustable, but I can't figure out how. I've tried pushing and pulling various items on the buckle, but nothing seems to be moving, and so I wonder if I am missing something. The driver's belt is slightly snug on me and passable, but wouldn't fit if I were wearing a heavier coat. The passenger belt is adjusted for an extremely large person, and would probably not prevent an average adult male from careening into the windshield. I've attached a couple of photos; the backside of the buckle reads "Eberhard-500". Any ideas out there? Alternatively, can someone suggest a source to get belts to replace these with? Thanks in advance...
