  1. Finally picked up my first GS weekend before last and trying to get it all straightened out. My dad and I have been working on "refreshing" on an original 57k mile car. Original owner parked partially protected, but outside when brakes went out, it has a cracked or severely warped front drum. All numbers matching we had to replace the carpets and repaint. It's an original ZZ Silver Cloud, but my dad picked the color and decided on a darker silver - grey and added a painted black top. He painted it himself in the driveway, but it's a really good 10 foot job. Has a few spots of cancer in rear wheel well edges and trunk lip but overall a really straight car. Not many options on the car, but it does have power windows, so I have that going for me. A/C? Who needs A/C in a dual quad big block? So far, new plugs, wires, fuel pump, filter, restored original fuel tank from my parts car with a new sender. Original interior is in pretty solid usable condition however it's originally a standard interior car and at some point, someone swapped out an original deluxe set of front and rear seats. It runs and drives....misses a little bit when in park and revving, but when it goes into D or R, it really starts missing, and from the tailpipes, it sounds like the miss is coming from the drivers side. When driving, at low RPM, it will drive pretty well, but if you give moderate acceleration, the motor really shakes for a second before slowly starting to accelerate. Trying to get it ready for a trip to Colorado Springs for the ROA meet. One side question - I ordered a rear Riviera script for my trunklid and it didn't come with clips. I have the screw on type for the round post emblems that go on the fenders, but the rear emblem has flat posts. I didn't see any on OPGI although I couldn't really tell from the pictures. Does anyone have a source for these? Someone I'm related to seems to have misplaced the originals along with the original rear emblem.     1966 Skylark GS

    I once had a '66 Skylark Gran Sport with a 3-speed manual on the floor. I sold it to a friend, but told him I would buy it back someday. He got into a fender-bender in 1975 and the insurance company said it was "a total loss". I think the adjuster got a great deal. Anyway, since I can't find that car, I want to find another GS I can drive. I'm looking for a 66 or 67 GS with a 401 or a newer engine, a 4 speed manual transmission. Numbers don't have to match, but I do want a true GS body. I've looked at several which didn't have the correct hood, had the wrong seats, etc. Also, if you ever see a mist blue GS driving around Sacramento, CA....get the tag for me.
  3. 350 V8, 4 barrel carb. Duel exhaust through bumper. Ram Air Induction through functional hood scoops. Automatic 3 speed. 2dr hardtop coupe (vinyl white). Bucket seats. Runs well: 39,700 miles. Car lived in Montana all it's life (no salty roads). Good condition. Some aftermarket modifications on interior & rims, but would be easy to fully restore. Im Curently in California stationed at Camp Pendelton and live in Mesa Az Im looking for either a decent shaped apollo or gs of the early 70's vereity with the 350 or 455 in it I dont have a whole ton of cash to sink in this so anything over 20k Im sorry but I cant do that please pm me if you have somthing that may fit my needs
  5. Hello all, Ok, I'm new to this list, and here is my first post... I'm thinking about replacing the springs on my '65 Gran Sport and need some advice. I've had this car for 26 years, but that's another story! The problem is that my Riv 'sags' a bit in the rear. Years ago I was advised by Leonard Scott (founding member of the ROA, and all around guru in his day) NOT to replace the stock coil springs. Leonard advised me to use rubber coil spring spacers, or better yet, have some spring seats machined to go on top of the springs to give a bit of 'lift' to the back of the car. Len said that repro springs were not made to the specs of the stock originals and replacing them would harm the handling of the car. He gave me this advice back in the early 1990's. I followed his advice and installed rubber spacers on the coils. Years later the spacers disintegrated and I replaced them with air shocks. This works fine, but now I'm worried that using air shocks to raise the rear will in time fatigue the shock mounts, as the coil springs are supposed to carry the weight of the car, yes? So, my questions are these: 1) Are the Gran Sport replacement springs sold by Coil Spring Specialties and/or Eaton exact replacements performance-wise? 2) I read a post on this list saying that the springs from Coil Spring Specialties will make the car sit too high. Has anyone bought Gran Sport (H2 spec) springs from this source that can verify that the car will be at the correct stock ride height after the new springs were installed? 3) Last question - if I replace the springs am I advised to replace all 4 springs (Front and Rear) at the same time? Or can I replace the rear springs only without affecting the ride or having the car ride height affected adversely? Thanks for your feedback.
