  1. Hi all, I need to get the dynaflow from my 58 Buick Century rebuilt. One company quoted $5000 and 3 weeks to do the trans and the torque converter. Does this sound about right for a full professional rebuild ? Any places that anyone can suggest I can ask that is competent to rebuild a Dynaflow ?
  2. 1957 Roadmaster, engine runs perfectly, new ignition, new plugs, new wires, new fuel pump, new carb, etc etc. However, upon acceleration there seems to be a vibration or shudder resulting in slow pick up. It has been suggested to me that it could be a torque converter damaged. In reading up on the dynaflow I came across the fact that the index hole in the crank has to be aligned with the index hole in the flywheel. (is this correct???) Secondly, did I put it out of balance when I turned the flywheel with a pry bar in order to put the torque converter drain hole at the bottom?????
  3. Hello, I am installing my freshly rebuilt Dynaflow on a 57 4dr HT. I already have the transmission in the car and hooked up to the motor, I am needing some advice on hooking the rear end back up into the transmission. I know how it goes together, it just seems like a difficult task to "push" the rear end back into the transmission. I wanted to ask someone who has done this before on how they managed to get this done, and if they could give me some pointers. Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Brandon T.
  4. Hello, I am in the process of rebuilding my Dynaflow transmission off my 1957 Buick Special. I have bought a complete rebuild kit, (with all clutches and plates, etc), but I have run into some other complications and am in need of some other parts that a rebuild kit does not come with. I know that a lot, (if not all), of these parts can be found on various websites, but I wanted to post an ad here just in case anybody has any spare parts laying around. Here is my list of needed parts: 1. Hi-low Brake Drum (part # 1388730) 2. Reverse Drum and Ring Gear (Part # 1354974 ???) 3. Front Band 4. Reverse Band 5. Parking Pawl (JUST the pawl if possible) (the actual piece the gear sits into) The bands I have are worn, so is my Hi-Low Brake Drum, and the reverse ring gear is worn with the teeth all messed up. The Parking Pawl must have been out of adjustment for so long, because the slot where the gear sits into is all rounded off. I may be able to fix it, but I thought I should ask anyway. Even if you have just one of these parts, please do not hesitate to let me know. I appreciate your time and I'm hoping someone has these parts! They do not necessarily need to be brand-new... but in good, working shape. Thank you, Brandon T. Missouri.
  5. Still looking at rebuilding wiring on the '51 76R. Can anyone point out how the wires attach to the neutral switch (Dynaflow-equipped car). If terminals screw on, screw heads aren't obvious. I don't want to go pulling on things unless maybe these are bullet terminals... Thanks!
  6. Hello, i was wanting to get peoples input on where to buy the best/cheapest rebuild kit for a dynaflow on a 57 special. Ive looked online an found some for about $200, but i didnt know if anyone here has bought a rebuilt kit and can testify as to which is the best. thanks for you help. P.s. I am so looking for a dynaflow dipstick for a 57. Ive found a 56, but i do not believe they are the same??? thank you. Brandon
  7. Ok. So my '49 roadmaster has been fine and real fun to drive. I now have an excessive transmission leak though. Sucks! It happened when I accidentally shifted into low gear at around 30MPH. Once I got home I noticed the massive amount of bleeding coming from the transmission. It seems to be leaking from the front (I know.. bad news) of the tranny and you can see the fluid spewing out from the bellhousing cover. I removed the cover and the inspection plate, checked my drain plugs on the torque converter and they seem nice and snug. Red tranny fluid noticeable on the flywheel.. The fluid is nice and red. Tonight, while messing around I decided to fire her up for a while. Bad leak still.. but I did notice another location leaking tranny fluid as well.. I saw it in the engine compartment towards the firewall where the block butts up against the tranny right above the starter. Seems to be pumping out from the seam between the block and tranny right next to an angle shaped plate!! I attached a photo of this area... Also, if anyone knows of an ol timer or one who could help me out around the Inland Empire area / Southern California it would be MUCH appreciated (shops e.t.c...). Jerrys 49
  8. Hey folks, I have a 1953 Buick Roadmaster that will not go into reverse. It was having trouble locking into Park. I found that the linkage was bent. As part of the service, I drained the fluid, dropped the pan and cleaned it and the screen. I did not drain the torque converter but I did let the transmission drip into a pan for a week or so, flipping the shift lever from time to time to release more fluid from the valve. I replaced the pan and fluid and set the linkage as per the manual. I now have Park, Drive and Low only. I disconnected the linkage, started the car on the lift and shifted it from underneath the car while running. It would not go into reverse at any position I put it in. I'm baffle! Please Help. Thanks
  9. Hey all, I own a 1951 Buick Special equipped with the dreaded "Dynaslow", "Dynaslush", or however you prefer to call it. It's honestly not that bad, granted I've only driven it for about a month. But, I was wondering, how much wear would it put on the transmission if I started off in low gear and then proceeded to switch to drive at around 30? You've probably got this question plenty of times at this point, but I couldn't find any other threads regarding this topic. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Jacob
  10. Hello I have a 1963 Buick riviera with the 401 CI Nailhead engine and the car has a Dynaflow 2 speed transmission and I would like to swap it out for a Super turbine 400 transmission. I know that the Super turbine 400 was standard in the 1964 and 1965 Rivieras but does anyone know if the Super turbine 400 transmission was longer then the Dynaflow and if the 1964 to 1965 Rivieras used a shorter driveshaft? Because if that is the case I would have to change the driveshaft too. Thanks for any help.
  11. Hello, I have a Buick Dynaflow automatic transmission that came out of a 1962 Buick LeSabre with a 401. This is an open driveshaft style transmission, not a torque tube. The transmission was pulled from a good running/driving car. Includes torque convertor and dipstick tube. Asking $150 or offer, plus shipping. Local pickup is also welcome. Located in Nebraska 68701. Please email me if you'd like more information. Have a few other Buick parts I will be listing later. Thanks!
  12. Hey guys I am new to the forum and just picked up a 1955 Century 4 door hard top. The nailhead is running good, but the transmission is missing so here is my question...... I have located a 56 dynaflow that was attached to a nailhead. Will it swap? I was told there may be a difference in the ATF cooling? Just wondering if it will work, I can get the 56 tranny for a good price. Thanks, Shon Elliott Lubbock, Texas
  13. 49 Buick Super 4dr sedan straight 8 Dynaflow, I bought this hoping to have time to bring it back but I don't, It has been stored most likely in a Garage for years, (no mouse damage)someone loved this old girl the interior was redone and painted some time ago! Amazing sheet metal it's had a small patch at spare tire well other than that I don't find any metal that needs replacing! I believe it's the original Eng. but does not turn, I do have a spare eng that does and comes with the car, I have inspected the under sides and other than some dirt it's in great shape it could easily be a driver or a easy restore, Some trim missing no Frt bumper I have a restorable rear, air filter missing. Brake pedal goes to floor. I completed the lien process and car is ready to be titled. Car is in Oregon, Can email lots of pics. Call Martin @ 503-968-2855 $2500.00 cash or possible trade Thanks for looking!

  19. Hi. Me again! On a couple of occasions today the trans hasn't gone into reverse. I've had to jiggle the shift lever a few times to get it to engage reverse. It feels to me like a sloppy cable. Before I confuse myself with the book (!) can anyone give me a simple description of how to check and adjust the cable please? Yours ever hopefully! Dave.
  20. Hello, What color should the Dynaflow transmission be painted on a 1953 Buick Roadmaster??? Thank You, Brad www.classicgaragellc.wordpress.com
