  1. Hello, my name is Harry Schneider and I'd like to let you all know about the new "Vancity Plating". I have worked in the chrome plating business for over 28 years and have loved every minute of it. But, I always found myself in conflict with other shops ideas of quality. Being that I wanted to do the absolute best quality chrome, it seemed everyone else just wanted to get it out the door and get paid for it! So, because of their lack of quality, I found myself moving from shop to shop in search of one that felt the same as me. Seems that there isn't one. Then I teamed up with 2 incredible craftsmen, and together, we've opened Vancity Plating. I can finally do it my way and to my ultra high standards! We will be catering to, high-end custom car/bike builders, restorers, and those backyard builders, that are looking for the best quality chrome plating or polishing for their cherished rides! We take our work very seriously and love what we do, and it shows in our final product, if your not happy, we're not happy!! Our welder holds 14 welding tickets and is an absolute master at what he does, plus we have the ability to fabricate things like a rotted out grill, replacing bad areas with new metal giving our customer back an unbelievable finished product! We will become an important part of the hotrod, custom, restoration culture, not just another vendor there to just take your money. We are all dedicated to the same thing, the best product possible, anywhere, period!! All we are asking at first, is to just give us one chance to prove to you that we are the only chrome plating shop you will ever use again, this I truly believe we will do for you. We are using the latest, state of the art, environmentally friendly plating system and are ready to meet the future standards which will have many other shops struggling when new environmental regulations are enforced. At Vancity Plating, we believe in hard work, so we can offer a quick turn around time along with Vancity's standard of quality. Vancity Plating will stand out amongst all it's competitors due to hard work, attention to detail, caring, the passion we have for the auto/bike industry and most of all, making our customers happy. Thank you, if you have any comments or questions, please contact the numbers below or feel free to contact me personally, or drop by the shop, and lets discuss your next project and see how Vancity Plating can help you get it to that next level! Thanks Again, hope to see or hear from you soon! Harry Schneider Vancity Plating #105-2544 Douglas Road Burnaby B.C. 2. This is some of what I have available. I would like to sell them individually rather than by the lot. I have four more box's of things like this. Also have a few engine parts like fuel pumps (3) hub caps (12) radio dash plate and many other things... Looking to get the best price for them and have done some research on what is out there. Not much of what I have is available on line so far... make me a reasonable offer.
  3. I have a lot of parts I picked up and most are NOS, many are in the box or have part numbers attached. The problem is I don't have a way of looking up these parts. How can I find out what they fit? I didn't get them for a project, I was just helping a guy that was moving and needed them gone right away.
  4. I have3 related questions about the chrome on my 1948 Chrysler sedan: 1) Is all the trim on my car chrome, or is any of it stainless steel? 2) What do you recommend as far as polishing compounds for chrome and/or stainless go? 3) How does one go about replacing glass, and replacing , or restoring the chrome trim around the four wing windows (the trim that is attached to the glass itself)? Can this be detached and rechromed when new glass is installed? How? By heat gun?
  5. I have a 1948 Chrysler Windsor Sedan. I recently purchased a center brake light housing that had been re-chromed. It is better than mine, but I was wondering about the grooves in the center of the housing that run the length of the car. Are these supposed to be black? If so, what kind of paint would I use and how does one paint on chrome? The hood, trunk, and side emblems also have paint on chrome, though it is an orange-red. Does anyone know the proper paint color for this red?
  6. Got your attention with the title - as I was drawn into 1 more '51 than I expected, I begin the search that I have seen many times on here - the quest for the Moustache bar & bar ends. I search the auction listings, even consider buying an entire parts car for those few parts on the very front end. I also notice that there are many smaller cast pot-metal parts available in reproduction. So someone (or someones) is doing this. My questions are: 1. Anyone know a supplier of custom castings? Anyone know who's doing the repros of the '50-'52 50-70 series tail light rings, the "Dynaflow", "Super", and "Roadmaster" fender scripts, etc? 2. Is there enough interest in doing / funding a run of '51-'52 Moustache bars? 3. Need to confirm if the end pieces are the same for all, with different center sections (I can do this). 4. Anyone familiar with the path of making replica parts - as far as trademark/copyright or other rights - does GM care for "a cut" of items of this nature (especially since these actually have the Buick name cast right into the front)? By the time one spends hundreds on what may or may not turn out to be a reasonable "core", and spends hundreds more on a re-chrome job that may or may not yield acceptable results, pit or crack again, etc., new versions of these parts may have some market, even if they turn out to seem fairly expensive. There's other costs that could be avoided like buying / transporting / storing a whole parts car (mostly) for these few parts, time spent scanning listings, working with other sellers, shipping from people who may or may not know how to pack such things, etc.
  7. Hey All, I've had this piece of chrome (or stainless?) trim for some 35+ years. I pulled it off a car in the woods when I was in my early teens in the mid 70's. I don't recall what car it came from, but believed it was from the 50's. There were several cars in a group so I'm not sure. It's been hanging on my wall for the longest time and I'm thinking that maybe someone could use it. I've browsed hundreds photos on Google looking at dozens of different cars and I've struck out. At one time 10 years ago I though it was from a Hudson, but I haven't been able to verify that. It also looks similar to the front fender side trim of a 65 Plymouth Fury but its too tall. It's in excellent shape with no dings. It's approximately 19.25 inches long and 3.25 inches tall. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan

  13. Jay Leno's Garage featured a cool demo for a new process to replicate chrome more accurately than ever before. I just posted this article with more details and a link to the video, I can imagine this being quite useful to many of us on this forum. If anyone has actually used this process before I'd be very curious how it came out, did you do it yourself, durability, etc.? Moto Arigato: Finally! A Cheaper and Easier Way to Replicate Chrome

  25. Hi, as of yet I am not an antique car owner but hopefully one day I will be. I came across these Mascots and have no use for them so hope to sell them to the best offer. The lady lost her wings and someone made some for her (poor job). The swan seems to be all there. They do both have minor pitting but not rust. I was given minor details on them but can't find them on the internet to have an idea how much to sell them for Please don't rip me off. If you know their value but don't need them, perhaps you could help me out with some info? thanks, scattered
