  1. Hello Everyone, I am completely new to TCs, so all of your advice and perspective is much appreciated. I've been in contact with the owner of a 1989 Chrysler Maserati TC Convertible with about 22,000 miles on it. Here are the specs as provided by the owner: Cabernet and Ginger < 22,000 miles 2.2 L straight 4 Chrysler K engine New battery Condition: Good -- mechanically sound (according to owner)Hard Top: Excellent (SOLD SEPARATELY) Tires: Need replacing Damage: Faded paint on hood, minor scratches, rust pellet on driver's door, faded patch on left side convertible top. Rear window automatic up/down not working but there is a replacement motor not yet installed. He said it was his mother's and she rarely drove it. Unfortunately, it has been living outside since then (perhaps seven years?) He said he has driven it a few times in the last four years. Needs fluids changed etc. and tires replaced but otherwise should be good mechanically. So he says. What should I watch out for? I'm going to take a look tomorrow. Any information that I can arm myself with would be much, much appreciated. His asking price was $2400 to get it all in working order, and $1400 for a "tow away today" sort of deal. Thanks!
  2. Hi all, My grandma's 1989 TC (automatic) was involved in a nasty hit and run this weekend and since we only have liability coverage the insurance is covering none of it. The police ended up towing the TC away so we're trying to decide if it's even worth picking up from the tow yard of if we should just say goodbye. Without an appraisal from the insurance we don't know how to tell the extent of the damage and if it's even fixable being such an old car. Can anyone here take a look at the accident pictures and give any advice on if it's worth saving? Anyone have any experience repairing at TC after a major crash? I don't even know where to start. We'd love to get it back on the road, but I'm not sure a project that big is realistic for us. Pictures attached below. The windshield is definitely cracked, but I don't know how to start assessing the rest of the damage. With all that said, if anyone is interested in taking it for repair or parts send us an offer. Up until Friday everything was in great condition with only 40k miles We're in Baltimore, Maryland.

  4. I have a new project car, a 100% original Desoto! I am young and don't have very much knowledge on cars in general let alone this one. I am pretty good with bodywork but mechanics and electronical arent my forte. If anyone can give me any tips or help when it comes to fixing up this old car I'd greatly appreciate it.   5. I'm a new member to AACA and my father and I are beginning to restore his 1929 Studebaker. I'm simply looking for advice on how to go about this project. Don't want to go into something this big completely blind. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  6. I recently got a 1965 Ford Falcon 4 door. We drove her from Fort Gratiot down near Detroit in April 2010. For those unaware, about an hour and a half drive with no problems. Now she keeps making a sputtering want-to-stall sound. When I hit the gas it only gets louder with longer gaps in the sputtering and will occasionally make her stall out entirely. When looking at the temperature it's at about halfway, but the fuel gauge is slightly off so the temperature gauge could be as well. Our first thought was either a charging problem or an overheating problem. To remove the story of why we ended up doing such, just trust we needed to replace these parts. We have replaced the alternator, voltage regulator and wiring (which were tested after and appear to be running smoothly), radiator, water pump and the idle has been played with, if it's turned a half turn back or quarter forward she starts to stall. She's still sputtering and we have a couple of options left and are stumped where to begin. If anyone could recommend where to begin or what else it could be, please do help. We're intending to start ASAP. Thus far between our intuition and other people's opinions it could be vacuum system failure (how can WE test for that without a mechanic?), fuel pump, carbuerator, thermostat, fuel filter or timing could be off. We know she needs an exhaust system but as of now we're not certain that could be causing stalling, could it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you very much, Amber Mansfield
  7. I saw a 1968 Mustang Coupe with an inline 6 for sale nearby my house and the owner is asking $5000. He said it has a sluggish transmission and it occasionally won't start due to the battery and/or starter. It has 83,000 miles according to the odometer and the interior and exterior are almost perfect. The shifter is a bit loose but I assume that can be fixed. I want this to be my first car and I'm looking for advice on whether I should buy it or not.
