  1. Hey I new to the Buick Forum. I have a 1964 Buick Rivera with a 425 nailhead and want to upgrade my alternator, im almost done with my rebuild! My questions is what brand and amp settings do you recommend for an alternator? I plan on putting in a nice sound system with subs later. Would 120-140 amps be enough or go higher? Also any places you might recommend to order some upgraded battery cables thicker gauge? thank you, Gustavo 1964 Buick Riviera 425 Nailhead
  2. Anyone have any luck finding plugs for the drivers side power window master switch? Any models that are interchangeable? Any help would be appreciated. My plug is hot glued together and some of the wire connectors are broken. I'm not sure I can salvage it.

  4. I have Buick Dealer Service Bulletins for each year on CDs. Really good, high quality scans, saved as PDF files. Here is an example: Washer Solvent Bottle Relocation.pdf Cost is $10 each for the 1963 or 1964 CDs; $12 for the 1965 CDs (because they require 2 CDs for all of the bulletins). I also have the 1963 Buick Master Chassis Parts Book scanned to CD for $10. Shipping is $5 for as many CDs will fit in a USPS small flat rate Priority Mail box. E-mail me if any questions.
  5. Hi, My indicator stalk in the 64 Riviera has stopped working (doesn't "click" up or down).........resulted in the stalk breaking, which I have removed and can fix. Anyone had this issue before? I have pulled the wheel but can't seem to get the top of the column off to see what's inside.....or does the entire column need to come out to look at it all....? Thanks in Advance Mai Ki-Ki

Dual exhaust with blue streak mufflers. The A/C needs new vacuum lines as does the Cruise Control, In my opinion to make them operable . All power windows work well. Recent items done to this Buick: Four New WSW Tires Brakes all around includes : new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, Drums turned. Rebuilt alternator Carburetor over hauled Air, Oil, Fuel Filters changed New Oil Transmission , Rear end checked Hose's and fan belts replaced Heater hose replaced Thermostat and housing replaced Decals Fuel Pump replaced Fan clutch replaced New Plugs, new wires, rotor and Pertronix ignition installed in distributor New Shocks front and rear. Head liner has come unglued in the center. Needs new package shelf. I have new weather stripping for the doors and trunk, also courtesy light lens's. There is no rust through on this Riviera , two or three ares with surface rust only where the paint peeled off , where the paint peeled off on the hood there is primer under it. no rust. Under chassis is good, panels have under seal, frame and exhaust has normal light surface rust. Body is real straight, a couple of small dings on the trunk lid, hard to see. This Buick had a bad paint job done on it and it started to crack an peel off(may have been Lacquer) and someone shot it with primer which it is peeling off. You have a real solid and straight body to work with. The chrome in the interior needs some help but all there. the bumpers. side chrome and head and tail light chrome is in good to very good shape. This Buick can be driven anywhere now, a very good driver. Has a lot of power and shifts good. If you want more pics or have questions contact me . This is one nice Buick Riviera. 14. I have a Buick Riviera up for sale or trade. It was built from a 1964 & a 1965 Rivera. The chassis only has 68,500 original miles, The motor has 4,000 since it was rebuilt. The motor is a 401 Nailhead bored .60 over with a mild cam. It is line bored and balanced. It has Sanderson headers & a Edelbrock 4-barrel carb. I have over 10k just in parts alone invested into this car. The car has clamshell headlights from the 65 Riviera but the motors need to be hooked up. They can be opened and closed manually. 17. Hey All, I am in the process of rebuilding a 64 and would like to convert my heater/ac unit to heater only. I have the control unit from a heater only car but can't find a vacuum diagram. I am looking for something like what is on page 11-79 but for a heater only car. My 64 chassis manual doesn't seem to have the info. The car had a bad heater core so I had the center console out to replace that. Since I had the console out I figure I should remove the dash to fix the cracks which led to fixing the leak in the back window. Some how a wood trim kit ended up in the mix. The torn drivers seat didn't go well with the nice wood so that is in the works as well. I am rapidly running out of summer and will need the defrost by the time I get the car back together. Thanks for the wealth of info in the forum. I will get a build post together with pictures once I get the thing put back together. Cheers Kraig
  18. Hey, I am getting a Buick I found back on the road after many years. I believe I need an ignition switch, though it could be the key cylinder for the switch or, something else? Here is what is happening: The starter wants to kick back in after the key is released. So, it starts the car fine but then tries to kick the starter gear back in randomly. It does not do this consistently. Sometimes it will start right up and the starter never disengages. Other times it starts and runs as normal, then kicks the starter again after 20 seconds or so. Also, I discovered that turning the key to "Accessory" also engages the starter! I found a YouTube Video that walked me through the "top secret" ignition switch removal (turn to Acc. push a paperclip through the hole to get the lock release, twist counter-clockwise). I cleaned the key cylinder and switch with ether, lubed and re-assembled. No change at all. So, am I missing anything? Should I be buying a switch, cylinder, complete assembly, or do I have a crossed wire or something? Thanks in advance! Russ
  19. My dad is restoring his 1964 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup and has decided to go with the solid rims instead of the split rims. He also has tires on the rims but those can be taken off if you don't want them. He said 2 of the 4 tires are in good shape! These are the original rims for the truck. Make me an offer if you want them. We live in the DFW area of Texas. Could probably mail the rims but not the tires.

  21. Hi gang, My '64 has an aftermarket carb (Edelbrock 750). I had no kickdown for a while, so I recently fabricated a simple bracket and hooked up one of these "pull-type" B&M downshift switches: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-20297 It now works well on the freeway, downshifting to 2nd (and staying in 2nd!) until about 70mph. But for some reason, it won't kick down to 1st. If I'm cruising casually around town, around 30 mph, and then step on it, it will kick down to 2nd but not down to 1st. 1st gear is good up until about 40mph, so I have no idea why it's not kicking all the way down. Any thoughts? Is this an oddity of the ST400 tranny? thanks for any info, jeff

  23. My grandpa gave me a 64 bonneville that he was going to restore but decided to give it to me instead. He hasn't started it in 25 years and I started it yesterday. The power top will not go up. I was wondering if it has a relay or fuse, and where it is. Thanks for the help.

  25. Hey guys. New to this forum. Thought I'd stop in and share as well as ask a few questions. I reciently aquired a 1964 Mercury Parklane "Breezeway" 25th anniversary. It's in pretty good overall shape. cosmetically I'd say its a strong 7 out of 10 if not an 8. 99% complete, only missing the hood orniment and rear fender "parklane" emblems. interior is super clean exept for some tearing in the front appolstry but everything else is mint. Original dash and all gauges working properly (except for the anolog clock and i dont think many of those even worked back in the 60's haha). Car even came with the original black and yellow California plates, lighter plugin service light from ford in the original dealer packaging from 1964 and owners manual with a ledger of all schedualed maintanence dating 1964-1967 (nice piece of the cars history that I'm happy to have). The rear windshield still motors up and down perfectly and silently ( I love that!) On to the mechanical side of things. The 390 thats in it is in good shape as well as the automatic trans. I checked all fluids and they look good. Issues I'm having and keep in mind that this is a very new vehicle to me (less then 24 hrs), are a carb issue, brakes and power steering. the power steering is simple enough the pump is going out and ill do a quick swap out on that. the brake issue is that when you press on the brake its super hard to a point of about half way in, then it "gives" loosening up. at that point the brake finally catches. Previous owner said that the booster and master cylinder were replaced 2 years ago and the brakes were bled, but who knows if any of this was done properly. upon poking around under the hood I discovered that the vacume hose going into the booster is mising the threaded adapter that creates a proper seal for the booster to do its job. Anybody with brake experiance out there that can confirm this theory? Anyway the brakes need to be completely gone over before I feel safe having my wife and daughter in the car at the moment. Next is what i hope is another quick fix. She fires up fine, a little slow this morning when it was cold but nothing bad. I havent had her die while in idle either. But when you accelerate if you gas it too fast she wants to stall, so I have to back off and give it a little mini pump of the gas then its fine. its every time you go to accelerate from a stand still. I'm sure it needs a good cleaning if not a complete rebuild of the carb. some more info, Its originally a 4 barrel carb but the previous owner installed a kit reducing it to 2 for better milage. would this have any factor in it? maybe not enough air flow? any suggestions on what to look into first? Well sorry for my long winded rant, can you tell I'm excited about my new project? I'll upload some photos soon so I can let you check her out. Thanks in advance for any help or insite.
