  3. Thought i would share this great story from local Back to the Bricks car show 2014 http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2014/08/flushing_man_journeys_a_1956_b.html Some great looking 1952 specials too.......
  4. I've found a 58 hardtop project car but the front seat is missing. Is any other Buick/GM front seat frame/spring assembly the same as a 58 Century 4-door hardtop seat? From looking at pictures, I would guess that the 57 Olds and Buick "B" bodies shared a common seat frame, but I'd like to be more certain before I buy a seat. I have searched this forum but can't find an answer; hope someone can help me out. Thanks! JoeT
  5. Ground up restoration to original color. Good condition. Runs great! Solid car. Always popular at the car shows. 2 door. White top and Aqua color on the bottom. Will email pictures or see at link below. Located in Boise, Idaho http://classiccars.com/listings/view/418069/1953-buick-special-for-sale-in-meridian-idaho-83642
  6. Not mine. Says starts/runs/moves, but gas tank out. Looks like it's most all there. http://tucson.craigslist.org/cto/4536597553.html
  7. Hey all, I own a 1951 Buick Special equipped with the dreaded "Dynaslow", "Dynaslush", or however you prefer to call it. It's honestly not that bad, granted I've only driven it for about a month. But, I was wondering, how much wear would it put on the transmission if I started off in low gear and then proceeded to switch to drive at around 30? You've probably got this question plenty of times at this point, but I couldn't find any other threads regarding this topic. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Jacob
  8. I was wondering if anyone knows how close a 52 Olds 88 trunk pan is to my 52 buick special trunk pan. Classic 2 current has this for 129 bucks, and appears to be very similar to my trunk pan. Or would i be better starting from scratch?
  9. Hello, I'm pretty excited as this is the first time I'm posting a thread on this forum. Unfortunately, my first post is marred by tragedy(A financial tragedy, at least). The story begins when I nabbed my license approximately a year ago, as I turned sixteen. I have been collecting and restoring vintage radios, televisions, and phonographs for the past ten years so I am mechanically inclined, and my uncle owns a garage where he assured me I would have access to the resources I needed to fulfill my dream. That dream? To own a classic car and employ it as my daily driver. Foolish I know, but at that time I was having an early-mid-life crisis. My goodness, I thought to myself, sixteen years already gone! That's about a quarter of my life right there! Social Security checks would start rolling in any day now. It was time to really start living. My parents agreed to go half and half on the vehicle and I saved up $7000 through working various jobs. To make a long story short, I ended up paying fourteen grand for a '51 Buick Special Riviera. Seriously, fourteen with three zeros behind it. The car is a nice, unmolested survivor with 51,000 on the OD. Sat in a barn in the Nevada desert for twenty five years. No major problems (Except for a cracked intake, but by the grace of god I managed to locate a cheap spare). I love the car to death, and plan to drive it for many years. However, I feel as though I've overpaid by at least $6000 if not more, and I need someone to check my sanity, because I'm seriously freaking out right now. I didn't expect to make an investment, let alone an extremely profitable one, but the idea that I overpaid by that much is making me nuts. I guess I just wanted to vent a little, sorry if I wasted your time. Sincerely, Jacob
  10. i am having a problem removing my steering column from my 56 buick special i tried everything i can think of its the only thing holding me up from taking my body off any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

  13. Hey fellow Buick lovers, Im proud to say I own a 1955 special with 80k on her and im the 3rd owner now. It has been a load of fun learning and working on it. In 1 day I got her running after 25 plus years of being stored in the garage. I did some research on non detergent oil also lead additive for the gas, put a new battery in after fresh fluids and she fired right up. Now after a few times around the block the clutch is slipping really bad. Do they make clutch kits for the 3 speed manual. I find kits but I have no clue the size or exactly what I need. And please feel free to give tips, advance or any thing I should check into to make this car right again. I plan to restore her and try to keep almost everything original. May add a radio but other than that I love it the way it is. Thanks for the help.
  14. Dear Buick fans or any classic car lover, I am new to the classic's but knew id own one soon after seeing the special in movies like this boys life and dont tell mom the babysitter is dead. I finally just bought a 1955 Buick special 3 speed on the column with 80k miles on it. Since im in my 20s this older technology on this car is like my grandparents with my ipod, definitely takes reading and just getting under the hood. After not running for 25yrs I changed the battery, drained all fluids, bought new non detergent oil and an oil canister filter, put lead addictive in the gas & she fired right up. Issue 1.) Now I can feel the clutch is slipping badly and needs to be replaced. The issue im having is the correct parts and how to do it. I cant find a clutch kit for sale ( I can but not sure what size ) nor do I know the best way to change it. Ive seen pull the motor or some tube and rear end forum. Issue 2.) Now it wont start. Which I think im going to buy a new starter and solenoid so that takes 2 of the maybes gone. I heard the relay or switch by the carb and manifold can go bad but rare. The motor wont even turn over with a new battery but everything comes on so I think its one of those I listed but any info is much appreciated. Thanks for your time & help : )
  15. Somewhere in the forum I found a post that listed the exact part number for the radiator for the 1951 40-series with Dynaflow, and what other years interchanged. I wrote it down, then lost what I wrote & can't find the post again. Anyone have that info? I believe it's a common part across 1950-52, but want to check. My '51 does not have the original radiator & rather than restore/recore this mystery part, I need to start over with the right radiator.
  16. Y'all probably remember this one from the buy & sell forum. I said it would take a while, but it's finally arrived, after a roll-back, an 18-wheeler, and another roll-back. Now safely tucked away inside my garage. Roy's description was accurate but for one thing - while it was up on the transporter I looked underneath, and it looked even better than I expected. Darned phone was re-booting at that moment, so no photos. A couple of hornet's nests were found (and I don't mean just a figure of speech - real hornets). For now, my kids have named this one "Mater" for the patina. My daughter even asked, where's the tow hook? It's going to be a while before I can really get into this, but the parking brake works (more or less), and I think the movements on/off the transports loosened up the wheels some, because my wife and I pushed it into the garage pretty easily (for a 3680-pounder). Just to see what happens, I've got it on a 6v trickle charger right now, though I don't expect much. The interstate trucker got it to about here or maybe a little lower, got inside, popped it loose, let it roll back, stuck the parking brake, and it stopped in a parking spot, just like I asked. I didn't know how long it would need to be there, so I wanted it "casually" hanging out in a real parking spot. I'm not really even sure how he popped it loose - maybe set the parking brake, released the last chain, and released the brake? Anyway, he judged the stopping power of the brake pretty much right on. This guy was telling me about a '57 Buick wagon he used to own. He knew pretty well what he was carrying here. Valve cover cap is gone in this photo, but I found it later down the right side of the engine. Yes, that radiator hose is funky. Looking at photos of other cars, this isn't an original radiator - maybe not even Buick. Oh, and the engine is all black, so that might not be original either. Where's the engine number?
  17. Im in need of a set of 54 buick dagmars, I have purchased a 54 special, and unfortunately, it does not have them on it.... Hopefully someone can help me out Cheers

  19. Well I'm looking to sell what's left of my 1963 Buick Special. I bought it at a local consignment auction in the summer of 2011 for what I thought was an amazing deal, $2,000. It was in really good drivable condition and, since I have never owned a vehicle purely for fun, I was thrilled to be able to tool around in it as it was. It suited me right down to the ground. It had this goofy flat black after market paint job with red wheels and details that I felt fit me and my personality perfectly. It brought me and the people I ran into when I was out and about driving it an awful lot of joy. In June of 2012 I was stopped with my directional on to turn left, and some kid rear ended me at about 70 mph. This brought my tooling around to a sudden stop. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but my car was totalled. I'd like to keep it on the road in some form or another, but the damage is too extensive to make it practical to try to restore it. Besides which, I don't have the time or money to take on a project of that size. The question is, how much is my Buick worth as it sits and what is the best way for me to sell it and know that it will go to someone who is going to put another vintage Buick back on the road. I live in a small town in West Michigan 30 miles north of Grand Rapids. Any input or information that you guys can offer me would be a huge help and very much appreciated. Pics follow. ~Dave

My Buick special is drum/drum and a original power brake car. The treadle vac was gone form the car and don't plan on going that route of putting one back in.I understand that the brake lines in the 55 special are 1 inch.so theoretically if I had a drum drum power booster that was 8 inches and the master cyl was set up for 1 inch I would think it would work I'm not looking to go complete resto on the car. Will something like this work? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/8-Inch...ster,9557.html What have you used? Let's talk. Thanks everyone, and happy new year! Any advice is appreciated. 21. hi, i'm looking for some parts for my 1953 special riviera...i need a gas pedal, a shift stick with knob (for manual transmission), wiper blades (somehow the one i have on it are 11" long but they keep getting stuck on the top of windshield) so i guess i need 10" one, exterior sunvisor, and perhaps one of you knows where to get an upholstery kit for the seats, something ready to put on it... thank you
  22. Hey guys, I have been looking at a lot of 37 Buick Special 4 door pictures and have not seen anyone fender-less. Has anyone seen one without fenders? I'm not planning on doing this to our 37 but have been curious if anyone has done this in "rat rod" fashion or otherwise. Maybe there's a reason that I haven't seen one yet. Sam
  23. hey how yall doing just finished registering on this club, i just picked up a beutiful 1940 buick special, is going good so far, all but finding parts. im redoing the brakes at the moment and trying to find a new master cylinder, no luck yet, but one company im working with is trying all over the states, the one issue im having is geting the casting number on the master cylinder, its very pitted and really cant make any numbers out, does any one know the numbers for that model or have an idea where to get a single output master cylinder for this thing??
