  1. Greetings all. I'm a new member to the AACA Forums. I was lured in by the extremely helpful posts by Pfloro, HurstGN, and Rivnut that kept coming up during searches for technical advice on the 1981 Oldsmobile Toronado I purchased yesterday. I am a long time Toronado fan. My first car was a 1985 Toronado Caliente that I purchased in 1996 when I was 17 years old. It was black metallic exterior and gray leather interior, digital dash, and the "classic" grill. I loved that car. Unfortunately, in 1998 during my first week living at college instead of commuting, it was stolen from the dorm lot and wrecked. Since then I've had an '83 Caprice V6, an '85 Continental V8, a '94 Cutlass Convertible 3.4DOHC, a 2004 Cadillac CTS, and a 2003 Chevy Avalanche. Financial difficulty a few years back caused by losing a job forced me to sell the Avalanche and terminate the lease on the CTS two years ago. I helped a friend restore a sad 1996 Roadmaster Estate and as a trade he let me drive it for a few months since I was without a vehicle of my own. Since then I've been sharing a 2004 Honda CR-V with my partner. Till yesterday. Yesterday I brought home a 1981 Toronado with 88k in very good condition. I purchased it from the nephew of the original owner. It's had some modifications done to it that I will be reverting back to stock (exhaust, radio, cruise control) but is otherwise nearly perfect. (pre-purchase pictures below) I'm glad to finally be back in a Toronado. It's like seeing a dearly missed old friend again after 12 years. Another note, I am the owner of, a website dedicated to GM and other domestic manufacturers. We discuss cars both old and new. I have access to the GM, Ford, and Chrysler test vehicle press fleet, so occasionally I post reviews of the new stuff coming from them. So a big thanks to those members I mentioned above. I hope you don't mind if I pick your brains often for advice.
  2. I picked up the 56 Roadmaster I've been looking at. New tires/brakes/exhaust/rebuilt carb/some other things also. Driving it home, I found the steering needs to be looked at and the brakes adjusted. Have to wait for some money to come in first though, sorta blew the whole wad. $4000, which seemed good to me, but I don't know much. Just know I like it and plan to have fun and drive it a lot. Will start on the engine compartment, which is not too bad anyway. Has the original carpet, which is not worn, may re-dye it. Rear seat is fine, front one needs re-done. Only thing it really needs is new chrome trim around the right rear taillight, it is broken on top. Jerry
  3. Hi everyone. For those of you who helped me on my last few posts, thank you very much. The car is coming along very nicely. A few more odds and ends on the wiring side of things and I will be very happy. I have a question on the paint though. One of the previous owners clipped off a piece of the metal tag under the hood so I dont know if this car is supposed to be 1 color or 2. I have attached pictures of the plates under the hood to see if anyone out there would know what color my car is SUPPOSED to be since the colors on there now are definitely not the right ones. Any input on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  6. I have a 92 Buick Roadmaster, and the ABS light stays on, and discharges the battery. I have tried all the fuses, and the light stays on. Any Ideas?
  7. Hello Everyone. Let me first introduce myself a little. My name is Sean. Im VERY new to the classic car scene. I have a 1948 Buick Roadmaster 76S. I have only owned it since June of 2009. I have done a little bit of work to it (actually... I have had OTHER people do the work to it), but it is no where NEAR where I would like it to be. I was wondering if there were people on here that could point me in the right direction to have a few things done in my area. I live just outside of Worcester. I spoke to BUKE on the phone today and he told me this is a great place to start and ask questions. (Thanks BUKE!) First of all, I am looking for a new wiring harness for the car. I know of 3 places that seem to have decent reputations, but was wondering how many people have actually used these places and would recommend them. They are, Harnesses Unlimited, RI Wire and YNZ yesterdays parts. Secondly, is there anyone in the area that would be able to do the job of replacing the harness? I dont want just anyone working on the car, but if people have reputable installers, feel free to either post them or send me a private message. Lastly (for now), I was wondering if anyone knows of where I can get pair of reverse lights (the whole assembly). There are holes on the body of the car, and from what I have read these were an option back then, but my particular car doesnt have them. Any leads on any of these things would be extremely helpful.   8. I am listing this for my neighbor. The car body is in great shape except for a dent in the rare raised hood, I believe any good body man could repair the dent with minimal finish filler work. The drivetrain is not in the car but most of it is in the back.   9. I have a 1939 Buick Roadmaster (80 series) and I need help on finding a transmission synchro and/or the input shaft. My problem is that the stickshift pops out of 2nd and 3rd gear when I do not have my foot on the gas pedal- (when I am going downhill for example). My mechanic told me to look for the parts above. Any lead (or technical assistance) will be greatly appreciated. Mario
