Hi I have a 1941 Buick Special 8. It has a 248 inline 8. I just got my radiator back and have been trying to get the car running. We were trying to figure out the timing but I don't understand how to do this with out the "degree scale" on later cars (excuse my lack of proper terminology). There is a mark or indentation on the flywheel but nothing to measure it against. As well I have been unable to find what the timing should be set to. All I can seam to find is "BTDC or as marked) I'm not fully sure I understand this. What mark are they referring to and what does it line up with? The last thing we were having trouble was the dwell. I found something that I think was saying between 21 an 30. I not fully confident it that value though. Below are some pictures. I am also in the process of converting to 12V. Hi I'm new to the site and I just got a 49 Plymouth. I'm just getting into classic cars and I'm 28. It was running when I bought it (two weeks ago) and I had a friend change out a number of things (spark plugs, fuel pump, distributor cap, rotor, points, coil, choke, and cleaned the carb) Well before I went to get it the cap was off and it isn't running now. My questions are..... There's a 12v negative ground battery, isn't this wrong? I got it like this. Its turning turning but will not start and I'm stuck. There's no spark in the new coil when I ran wires straight from the battery to it. There's no sparks in 2 spark plugs I checked. The set the points to .020. Is there something else I can do? I want to convert the points to electric ignition, is there any kits for a 6v? before he messed with it we ran a full tank of gas through it now I can't get it started.
Did some horse trading about a week ago, custom bike for a 1925 Dodge Brothers Coach with a 4 cylinder. I can do just about anthing needed to keep the car running if I can find parts. I have been trying to find plugs, cap, rotor and plug wires. I will also need to rebuild the carb and fuel pump system to be able to really think of the car as being reliable.
