I am wondering if anybody has an idea on the meaning of some abbreviations on my 1938 Chrysler Imperial Body tag. ------------------------------------ C19BC-1408 229-632 RHCT OD JOB No46-4 ------------------------------------- From this, I know the following: C19: Imperial BC: Business Coupe 1408: Body number 1408 229: Gyro Blue Poly Exterior Paint 632: ?? Interior trim (no idea what material or color this should be) RHCT: ?? OD: optional overdrive transmission. Job No46-4: ?? Does anybody have a clue what RHCT might stand for? The car doesn't seem to have any unusual options, but I am assuming this stands for some sort of optional equipment installed at the factory, like the overdrive transmission. Does anybody know, or have a car with the 632 interior trim? I'd like to redo it in the proper pattern if possible.
  4. Hi all, As I get further along with identifying what I'm missing on my 1938 Chrysler C19 Imperial convertible coupe, I noticed that I am missing a lot of parts from the rumble seat area. Would any of you that have 1937-38 Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge and Plymouths (even '39 Plymouths) have any photos, or be able to snap photos of a few parts for me? Let's start with an overall view (this is what I have): - Clearly, I'm missing the seat cushions. I have the one that goes on the deck lid, but not the bottom. I was going to make one, but I need photos of the bottom of it and how it attaches to those stands on the floor. Most people I've talked to don't have their seat bottoms out, and don't seem to want to take them out if they're installed. - I'm also missing whatever the side trim panels attach to (and the trim panels). I have no clue what those are supposed to look like. What are the side panels made from? - I don't have the toe board that mounts between the floor and the bracing behind the seat. I can probably make one if I knew what it's supposed to look like. - For flooring material, are these supposed to have a rubber mat, or carpeting? I'm also wondering how they kept the rain out of the trunk at the bottom of deck lid: On the photo above (looking between the open deck lid and the rear trunk deck), there's a tab that looks like something is missing from it. There's 3 or 4 such tabs along that panel. Is this for a trough? The side areas have troughs. Where do these troughs drain to? I have a pair of holes in the floor on the ones side below the left rear corner of the deck lid. Are there metal tubes or rubber hoses that go down there? Is there anything else that I might be missing? I have not had the opportunity to see a complete rumble seat coupe or convertible in this area to compare, so I'm hoping someone here could give me a hand. I realize that this is a bunch of questions, but I figure I would group all these on one thread and concentrate on this area of the car right now. I hope a few of you are able to help me...   5. I am trying to decide what color to paint my 1938 Imperial, which is something that won't be for a while yet, but I would like to start gathering information on. I have looked on Autocolorlibrary.com, as well as the DuPont online archives to get an idea what color my car may have been, but so far I am still unsure. My car "was" a 1938 C19 convertible that some farmer turned into a truck by hacking off the entire back part many years ago, and the rear body was subsequently replaced with one from a 1937 Royal convertible after my father acquired the car in the 1960's. I am now trying to finish this car where my dad left off on it before his passing. There are a number of places under the side trim that show the original color(s). The original body was a metallic grey (perhaps "Chinchilla Grey") with a red vinyl interior (based on some remnants of the original door panels). The replacement 1937 body was originally a metallic brown/gold colour (it appears similar to "Del Monte Beige") with a tan top (no clue on the interior, as it's missing). I'm basing this on what color chips I was able to find before. Are there any specific paint names and recipes for Canadian cars available? I am leaning towards painting the car in the brown color. I did try to photograph a spot where I was able to buff some paint, but this is a difficult color to capture, and will post a couple of photos later on. My 1938 Chrysler Canada parts book doesn't have much detail on paint nor trim codes. Perhaps one of you guys might have some info that could help me try to get enough information to get some correct paint mixed up.
  6. I am looking for some photos and dimensions of the top latches/clamps and sun visors found on any 1938 Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth or DeSoto convertible coupe. My car is missing the above parts. I'm also wondering if there is a difference between 1937 and 38 top hold downs as well. Mine appears to have notches in the pegs that locate the roof. Are these for some sort of bolt/wing nut setup (currently have a bolt threaded in that lines up with the notch)?

I am looking for the following parts for a 1938 Chrysler Imperial convertible coupe (C19): - Complete front seat assembly, including adjusters/slides, or very detailed photographs and dimensions of same from someone's car. The seat appears to be the same on 1937 and 1938 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler convertible coupes, possibly 1939 Plymouth convertible coupe as well. My car is missing the entire front seat assembly, so any leads or information would be appreciated; - Rumble seat bottom cushion assembly (or detailed dimensions and photos as mine is missing); (same possible donor cars as above). I had a reproduction made, but if an original pops up, I am interested. - Rumble seat interior panel patterns; (same possible donor cars as above) - Coupe or convertible Left Side stainless steel door and rear body trim (I am missing the rear body piece from the door to the tail along the quarter panel, as well as the door). Chrysler C18 Royal or C19 Imperial coupe or convertible coupe trim works; - Running Board stainless trim, top strips and side molding (any 1938 Chrysler Imperial C19 trim should fit); - Convertible coupe door sill plate (good sample, pattern, dimensioned sketch and detailed photos, or whatever I can use to get new ones made - mine are missing). - Horn button/horn ring springs and washers and contact plates for the optional banjo/chrome spoke steering wheel (same wheel as Dodge/Desoto/Chrysler) (I believe that the springs and contacts are the same as the regular steering wheel - I would be interested in a complete standard steering wheel assembly if need be); - Passenger door window regulator assembly, including window channels, window frame, etc (or a complete door) same on 1937 and 1938 Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and '37-'39 Plymouth convertible coupes with one piece glass (no vent window). - Windshield wiper arms, blades and blade guide rods that attach to windshield frame bracket, or detailed photos and measurements of same (all 1937-1938 convertibles are the same). - Interior sun visors and rods/mounts. Found a set... unfortunately, I still need a mounting bracket for the driver's side, as well as a pattern or dimensions for the visors themselves. - Pattern of the windshield header trim panel (where sun visors mount) or detailed photos of what it looks like.   12. This was my Mom's car and is in good shape for an all original, non restored and routinely used car, all original no changes that I am aware of. It got hard to start and Dad just put in under cover and had her drive something else. In good shape but does not start. VERY limited edition car. Needs a new home. Asking $4,500.   13. If you are an owner of a 1957-65 Imperial Limousine with coachbuilt body by Ghia of Turin Italy, I would like to start a registry of current owners. I own the 1960 Crown Imperial 5-window limousine that was special ordered by Nelson Rockefeller when he was elected governor of New York state that year. He used this car for formal events in NY City. He also owned a '59 Ghia limo which he gave to NY State for his use in Albany, the state capital. When Nelson became Vice President of the United States, the '59 was given back to Rocky and the car remains on display at the family estate, Kykuit, in New York.   15. I have a rust-free driver side front fender from a 60 Imperial, along with some of the trim pieces too. Very solid and no evidence of rust repair from the backside. Only significant damage is a small dent on the front leading edge. Include an email for me to send photos to if interested. This would most likely have to be picked up locally around the Kokomo/Lafayette Indiana area. I'd like $200 for it but I'm open to offers too!
