  1. I'm rebuilding a Buick 233 straight 8 and have hit a problem. the valve lifters are seized and I need to remove the camshaft to get at them. the problem is that it doesn't want to come out. no amount of hammering and twisting makes it move more than 5 or 10mm. is there some trick to getting it out? or do I have to hit it harder and hope I don't damage it. The block is bare except for the camshaft and the lifters which are up and out of the way of the lobes on the camshaft. I'm pretty sure the drive gear for the distributer is not hitting them either. Has anyone had this trouble before and if so how did you fix it?

  7. Trying to identify this windshield. My Mom was going to throw in the dumpster but I would not let her do it. Looks like a piece of history. Also looks original and has all the hardware. Some thought it may be 20's era Buick or Dodge. It is about 19 inches high, 39.25 inches across the windshield frame, 38.5 inches from center of mounting studs. Would love to find a home where it could be put to good use.
  8. I noted that the engine in a 1947 Buick Roadmaster I was looking to buy appeared to be painted black. I was told the reason, was that it had been rebuilt in the Buick factory. Does that explanation sound correct? Thanks...G
  9. I have a Buick Riviera up for sale or trade. It was built from a 1964 & a 1965 Rivera. The chassis only has 68,500 original miles, The motor has 4,000 since it was rebuilt. The motor is a 401 Nailhead bored .60 over with a mild cam. It is line bored and balanced. It has Sanderson headers & a Edelbrock 4-barrel carb. It is very reliable, you could drive it cross country and back with no problems. It has a Turbo 400 transmission with a shift kit. I have replaced almost everything mechanically in the vehicle. I have over 10k just in parts alone invested into this car. The car has clamshell headlights from the 65 Riviera but the motors need to be hooked up. They can be opened and closed manually. The car has no rust on it. It was recently taken down to bare metal and was Glasuret primered. The only thing the car needs is a coat of paint and it will be beautiful. The car has American Racing Torque Thrust rims with Bf Goodrich Radial T/A Tires. I am located in Pemberton,Nj. $14,000 obo. I am open to all trades. I also have a 425 WildCat Nailhead motor that im looking to sell and a powerglide transmission.

  12. Hi, I have just joined the forum and this is my first post. The handbook I have shows 2 pictures of where to place the jack at the front and rear of the car if I need to change a wheel. The front one looks OK but the rear position appears to be to jack up the car right under the leaf spring. Does anyone know where the best jacking points are please ?
  13. 1931 Buick 8-57 23,850 Original Miles!!! Don’t miss out on your chance to buy this documented, collectors dream!!! I’m the forth owner of this Buick, I bought it from my uncle who bought it in 1969 from the second owner (both of whom are still alive and have supplied letters stating their ownership and details about the car) who had bought it in 1967 from the family of the original owner. This car is a true survivor car, un-restored and in excellent condition! The vinyl top is the original, the paint is original the only things that have ever been changed/fixed on the car are the hoses, the throttle control on the steering wheel was disabled for safety reasons, we also disabled the ignition switch and just put an on/off switch under the dash. We had to replace a small pivot lever on the carburetor which was custom made for the car, two panels on the interior were repaired with original material, the metal spoke wheels which were used in place of the wooden spokes on later 1931 models were blasted and painted after my uncle bought the car and at the time the original tires were still on the car so he had the tires replaced so currently the car has only its second set of tires ever on it and we still have the factory original tires which will go with the car!!! Missing in the pictures is the Buick logo headlight bar emblem, we do have it but it was broken and fixed but we haven’t put it back on. The only flaws that this car has is that the paint is getting a little thin in a couple areas, the chrome looks like its 82 years old but for being 82 years old its really in pretty good shape and there is one small rust spot near the left rear fender on the body but that’s it, all of the wood is intact and in excellent condition and the body by fisher stamp on the floor board shows great! This car runs and drives like a dream and it has been an absolute blast to own but now its time for someone else to get the chance to enjoy this beautiful piece of automotive history!!! If you have questions please feel free to contact me via email or at 319-360-6490~ Tom The Buick is also available on eBay if you would like to see more pictures. Buyer is responsible for shipping, car is sold as-is where is, I can assist in lining up a hauling company if necessary.
  14. Hey, I am getting a Buick I found back on the road after many years. I believe I need an ignition switch, though it could be the key cylinder for the switch or, something else? Here is what is happening: The starter wants to kick back in after the key is released. So, it starts the car fine but then tries to kick the starter gear back in randomly. It does not do this consistently. Sometimes it will start right up and the starter never disengages. Other times it starts and runs as normal, then kicks the starter again after 20 seconds or so. Also, I discovered that turning the key to "Accessory" also engages the starter! I found a YouTube Video that walked me through the "top secret" ignition switch removal (turn to Acc. push a paperclip through the hole to get the lock release, twist counter-clockwise). I cleaned the key cylinder and switch with ether, lubed and re-assembled. No change at all. So, am I missing anything? Should I be buying a switch, cylinder, complete assembly, or do I have a crossed wire or something? Thanks in advance! Russ
  15. I have a 1991 buick reatta that the front right turn signal will not light. The bulb is good the relay is not the problem as i switched the left realy, which worksm, to the the right one and it doesnt fix the problem, i placed the right relay in the spot for the left and turned on the left signal and the relay starts to click. The back right signal lights so i dont think its the flasher. I checked the resistor thats mounted front and i get 4ohms from left to mid, 4.4 right to mid, and 8.4 across left to right. Also, when the headlights are on the right turn signal light lights up like the left on does before the turnsignal lever is pushed on, but when the right turn signal is then turned on the light goes out and doesn't flash and the left one works fine. the problem is also the same when the Hazard light is depressed. The repair manual seems to be directing me in circles, so if anybody has any ideas and would be willing to offer advice i would be most appreciated.
  16. OK, So my buick does not like to start up when shes hot. She cranks fine but will not fire. When cold it will fire in about 3 cranks. It will also start fine if shut down and then restart within a few minutes. However if i let it sit about 5 to 10 minutes i will have to wait an hour before i am motoring again. Here is a list of new parts and motor condition, brand new rings and rod bearings new battery new 00 cables new starter new pertronix flame thrower 2 coil new points new condenser new plugs new wires (solid coppers) rebuilt carb new valve job and guides 160 high flow stat new radiator factory exhaust and intake heat riser valve is stuck in the full bypass postion Stock mechanical fuel pump, tank and fuel lines. thick 1 inch carb spacer Timing is slightly more advanced than factory specs, car runs on the road great and doesn't ping under load. I set the choke at cold (75 ambient air temp) to just close the choke valve and it runs smooth until the choke is opened fully by the bi metal. Around 1 1/2 turns out from soft seat on the idle adjust screws. I am running ethanol gas and wonder if i am having fuel percolation problems. I also very slowly push the gas pedal to full open on hot start. Any ideas???
  17. I was at the out today and locked my 1989 Buick Reatta in a large parking lot, I'm assuming that someone tripped the anti-theft system. When I returned to my car the security light in the dash was blinking as well as the light indicating the parking lights being on. When attempting to start my car the radio and ac turn on but nothing else. Does anyone know how to bypass the anti-theft system? Things I've tried: Disabling alarm system via "open door unlock from the outside" method stated in the owners manual. Putting the key in the "accessory" position then turning they key to the "run" position, waiting 10 minutes repeated 3X Same as above except the second time I took the key out of the ignition between each try Jumping the car (in a last ditch effort) Any ideas? I've completely drawn a blank. Thank you.

  24. Have a question: I moved to Milwaukee for work. Shipped my 1947 Super from TX and it arrived with a dead battery. The truck driver offloaded it and then he jumped it with a 12 volt charger. I wasn't happy about it, but couldn't leave it on the side of the road in the area I'm living until we close on a house. The battery died again as soon as I got it into the garage. Bought a charger, the charger broke down before charging the battery. Bought a new battery, put it in and now the car doesn't seem to fire. Starter sound okay, but no start. Could the 12 volt jump screwed up anything that I should think about replacing? Another thought. I believe the 40s buicks had a safety feature that routed the generator through the ingnition. If the brushes were worn down, the car would not start. Could this be the issue with the dead battery and now the failure to start?
