  1. If you are asking about my setup, I have the momentary part wired to the dist. for quick grounding.
  2. I installed an R11 OD system on my 38 coupe. I didn't bother with the "stock" type kick down switch. I simply wired the governor wire to an on-off-momentary switch under the dash. When I want to get out of OD I flip the switch to off and I have the momentary part grounding the dist., been working fine all this season.
  3. The wife and I are going the 8th and 9th
  4. Just a note - the car was a 38 coupe (just like mine same color too) but unfortunately you can't bring up the episodes on the DIY web site or at least I can't seem to find out how to view them. I guess I'll have to "wing it" when I pull my motor this winter.

    You mean the "pound" sign?
  6. How about a pair of large slip joint pliers (worked on mine)?
  7. A quick tip for using EZ outs - grind a ring (dremel with cutoff wheel works great)around the shank of the EZ out. If and when it snaps it will break at your grind point leaving you a stub for removal.
  8. Death of the Fiero-- According to Hulki in a talk he gave at the 20th anniversery at Pontiac MI, shortly after the V8 Fiero vs Vette event GM decided to restructure the Fiero plant. Originally the plant has a work force of 800 people after the "restructuring" the plant went to over 1000 people with the new folks being management. Suddenly Fiero profits stopped meeting expectations and was dropped.
  9. The wife and I have been doing Hot Rod Power Tour for 9 years now in a Fiero. Our second Tour was the 2000 Power Tour. We live in RI and the PT started in CA. We drove to CA and did the Tour to FL and then back to RI.(8139 miles in all) and we only had to do laundry once. You can fit 2 of those airline carry on bags and 2 small duffles in the trunk. And then bottles of water and other such stuff in the front compartment.
  10. GM orphans - everybody has a soft spot for orphans
  11. Good info padgett. As for the SC3800 I already have one in my Fiero. In fact I just changed my Fiero from a 5 sp getrag to a 4 sp auto and picked up about 2 mpg over the 5 sp. Now I'm getting 30 mpg highway. Before the SC3800 was modified I got around 34 mpg but it dropped a bit after I "bumped up" the HP from the stock 240 to 320. The wife has a 4 cyl T Top Fiero with the 5 sp and we have gotten 40 mpg on a trip. Unfortunately the Packard get a strong 12 mpg.
  12. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: handmedownreatta</div><div class="ubbcode-body">the other problem is hardly any new parts are available unless they also fit other buicks. </div></div> I'm very familiar with the parts thing - I have 2 Fieros that I have to keep running and a 38 Packard
  13. I have a chance to pick up a 90 Reatta conv. I don't know much about Reattas (I'm into Fieros and Packards). Are there any common trouble spots that I should look at when inspecting this auto? Also I have a spare Supercharged L67 3800 series 2 motor in my garage. Is this a pretty much straight forward swap, I know the PCM will have to be dealt with.

    Is this a '38 120

Just to be picky - in 38 it was called a standard or just Packard 8 not a 120. I have a 38 8 cyl and I was corrected when I called it a 120
  15. Be advised that when converting the R11 to a floor shift you will have to cut down the throw on the 1st & R fork. I did it by cutting new detents in the shaft and I put some spacers on the shaft.
  16. A spare engine for my 38 standard 8 would be a nice addition - could you contact me about it - pran@cox.net I'm in Coventry RI. Also I'm looking for a spare transmission top for my 38. I converted my original top to fit an R11 overdrive.
  17. As posted earlier I'm in the process of installing a R11 OD tranny which when engaged will give me an effective rear end ratio of 3.14. OD gives the best of both worlds - low end grunt for around town and high speed gearing for cruising.
  18. Found my rough data sheet on my MPH vs speed readings. I had my old Penske tach/dewll meter and took some test runs. Remember I was trying to hold a constant speed ,drive and read two different meters at the same time. Again I have 30" tires and a 4.36 rear end. I do believe that my speedo is about 5 MPH low at 30 MPH and above MPH-----RPM 30------1850 35------2100 40------2350 45------2550 50------2850 60------3500
  19. I'm in the process of installing an R11 OD tranny in my 38 8cyl coupe and from my VERY preliminary calculations I should be able to safely cruise at 60 MPH at just under 2500 RPM. I wouldn't want to go to a much higher RPM for any period of time. My stock rear end is a 4:36 and I have 30" tall tires
  20. I bought an overdrive solenoid from him in Oct. Told him what I was looking for and he said "Wait here" and he took off came back in about 20 min with the solenoid.
  21. I'm in the process of installing an R11 OD tranny in my 38 coupe. According to all the information I can find when the OD is engaged it will give me the equivalent of a 3:13 from my stock 4:36 rear end.
  22. Its not rust, the proper term is "Vintage patina"
