  1. I owned a '85 Riviera with the anemic 307 Olds V8 at the same time that I owned a '92 Riviera with the 3800 naturally aspirated pre-Series I V6. Even though the 307 Olds had 8 cylinders, the '92 was obviously peppier with an electronic overdrive tranny. The '92 had better response in each of the categories you've mentioned. BTY, my '91 Reatta came standard with the "Sport-FE3" suspension (Grand Touring). It can be a little stiff verses the "Soft Ride-FE1" suspension on my '92.
  2. When I owned cars manufactured in the late fifties and early sixties, I used to pour STP down their carburetor to burn out any/all crap out of it.... always seemed to work. Also, I used a sawdust "additive" to transmissions to cure them from slipping!
  3. I see plenty for sale in the ROA Riview magazine and on eBay.
  4. My dad was career Navy (1936-1966) and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He happened to be up on deck of the USS Oklahoma when the first of nine Japanese torpedoes hit the port side of the ship. It "bellied up" within ten minutes after having thrown dad overboard into the harbor. I'm currently reading "The Admirals" by Walter R. Borneman. It's about the interactions between and egos of Nimitz, Halsey, Leahy, and King. Great reading.
  5. I remember my family traveling from Newport, RI to San Diego, CA in a '48 Dodge Club Coupe' in 1951 because my dad was career Navy and called to serve in the Korean conflict. I remember traveling from San Diego, CA to Weymouth, MA in a '56 Ford Fairlane 500 in late 1956 because my dad was transferred from the Pacific Fleet to the Atlantic Fleet. From then on, we traveled by car from MA to CO every two years to visit my dad's parents for two weeks in the Summer until I graduated High School in 1967.
  6. For 2024, I had to choose between driving to the BCA meet in Strongsville, OH and the ROA meet in Lexington, KY. The ROA meet won. I do plan to drive to the 2025 BCA meet in Concord, NC.
  7. John, you have wicked good taste for a Winter beater!
  8. Mine came to me on my iPhone late yesterday...thanks, Pete.
  9. There's an app for that! We here in Eastern MA use this USPS online service, also.... have been for a while.
  10. Reatta convertibles have been increasing in price. $10K is reasonable IMO. 97K miles is a drop in the bucket as these cars last well over 200K if maintained properly.
  11. Got mine today (11/21) in MA.
  12. Al Dann, long time member of the BCA Minuteman Chapter, passed away mid-November. He was having serious health problems lately and finally succumbed to them. Over the last few years, he drove a '53 Buick "Woodie" and a '91 Buick Reatta. He is survived by his wife Nancy, a daughter, and son.
  13. I also use JC Taylor as my classic car insurance here in MA. When I was working on completing an '85 Riviera, they had no problem insuring it as an unregistered/incomplete auto. They are top notch/hassle free IMO.
  14. Never mind any mechanicals possibly failing, I don't trust my own driving skills at that speed!!
  15. A few corporate managers have a vision that when carried out are successful and profitable. Some just the opposite. I worked for Honeywell Information Systems from the late sixties to the early eighties. Corporate managers decided to compete with IBM's big mainframe computer business while most other computer companies like Prime, Digital, Wang were selling small/minicomputers. In fact, Honeywell advertised itself as "The Other Computer Company" against IBM. They failed and folded. I also worked for State Street Boston from the early eighties 'til my retirement in 2003. Their CEO, Bill Edgerly, took the bank from an end consumer retail/commercial loan bank to a "back shop" investment services institution. It is now the second largest financial institution worldwide. Now there's a man with a vision!
  16. The '89-'93 Riviera, with its slant-back rear end design truly made it a better-looking Riviera...IMO. At one point I owned two '92 Rivieras; a Midnight Blue Metallic with a dark blue landau roof and a Ruby Red Metallic with a white landau roof and white interior.
  17. I have a one-car garage that houses my 2000 Eldorado. My 1991 Reatta is housed in a 10'X16' vinyl igloo.
  18. I'm liking that '67 Rivi! There's a fellow ROA member, Woody Combs, who owns a 'Riviera Red' one. '67 was one of the most stylish Rivi's in my opinion.
  19. Undoubtably, that Massachusetts plate belonged to a state politician!
  20. My great-great grandfather served in the Union army, my dad was 30-year Navy and a Pearl Harbor survivor, and my brother served 2 tours in Viet Nam. I salute all veterans! Also, as an aside my granddaughter's 27th birthday is today! Born on 11-11 at 11am.
