  1. I need to replace my trans mount and did a quick search here to see what others have been doing since the local auto parts stores no longer list a replacement part. I realize that CARS sells the correct mount for $35 plus shipping but I am not opposed to other alternatives. I picked up a mount for a '73 Riviera and it is identical in shape and size but instead of two holes for the offset bolts to mount it to the crossmember it has a single bolt projecting from the center of the mount. Before I drill a hole in my transmission crossmember, are their other options. Thanks - Ron
  2. John, Responding to your PM from yesterday...Tom is right on the money here. Also, the wiring for the Fan Motor and Resistor Pack on your car passes through the firewall with the vacuum lines. It is not part of the body connector. Make sure all of the wires are in good shape. If you smoked the resistor it is likely becasue you have a direct short to ground. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the Climate Control unit, as well as the relay on the fendor and the resistors. With an Ohm Meter you can check each wire and make sure you do not have a short in any of those. Using the schematic in the Shop Manual you can test the continuity of the switches on the Climate Control unit. You can also use the meter to check the value on each resistor. With an Ohm Meter you could trace this out fairly quickly. If you don't own one, you can pick up an inexpensive one at Radio Shack. Probably less than $25. Sadly, only a few of their employee's can likely show you how to use it but it will come with directions. Keep us posted on what you find. Ron
  3. John, On high speed I believe the resistors are actually bypassed so if it doesn't turn on it is likely a bad motor. I would go ahead and purchase a new blower motor. They are not that expensive. Old Air Products out of Texas should have them in stock. Start with that and see what happens. The resistors are pretty hearty so despite the smoke they may still be good. Ron
  4. Removing the six small screws will allow you to remove the blower motor. I would be very surprised if you burned up the blower resistor. Does the motor run at all? Ron
  5. Hey guys. Sorry I didn't pipe in sooner. I sent a photo of one of my clips along with measurements to Restoration Specialties last year and they recommended part number 67-6103. The clip is nearly identical although the top corners on the new clip are rounded and the originals are square. Other than that they worked perfectly. As far as quantities I can confirm that the front window uses 8 clips. I ordered 30 and have 2 left so the rear window must take 20 clips. I hope this helps! Ron
  6. I wish I had an easy solution for replacing the carpet on the door panel but I don't. I actually purchased new door cardboard from Clarks with carpet and vinyl installed by them. I had to finish the panel with the wood insert and metal frame at the top but that was pretty easy. The hardest part was stretching the vinyl on the edges around the nail strip on the back of the door panel. If your carpet on the door is in good shape I would consider spraying it with some kind of dye or paint. If the color matched I think you would be happy with the end result. Hopefully others will weigh in with their opinions as well! Ron
  7. I may be wrong but I believe the tank straps provide the chassis ground for the fuel sending unit. Not a big deal providing you run a ground wire to the tank.
  8. That's what I needed...thanks guys!
  9. Jim, I replaced both actuators on my '65 a couple of years ago. I got my actuators from Old Air Products out of Fort Worth TX. I believe their web address is oldairproducts.com. Ron
  10. Hey guys. I am wrapping up the installation of factory cruise in my '65. I need a close up photo showing where the vacuum line from the Control Unit passes through the firewall from the engine side to the interior. Fisher Body ads dimples to show where to drill for mounting holes but I cannot find one for the vacuum line and grommet. Not sure if the line should be on the right, left or underneath. Can anyone assist? Thanks - Ron
  11. Bob - I checked my switch and there are no distinguishing numbers. Operation is as I described above. Ron
  12. Bob, I believe the switch should be off in it's forward position. First click back is on at slow speed, second click is high speed. The power antenna switch is off in the middle. You have to push and or pull and hold it to operate the antenna up and down. My trim plate is out of the car and I can see if there are numbers on the switches tomorrow when I am back out in the garage. Thanks, Ron
  13. Hey guys. Can anyone assist with my question in post #7 above? Thanks for looking! Ron
  14. The resistor provides for 2 motor speeds. The switch has three positions, off, low and high. If you don't care about the two speeds the resistor could be bypassed.
  15. I'm getting ready to add the rear defroster to my '65. I need to cut the rear package tray for the opening. Does anyone have a template or are in a position to creat one? The metal under my package tray was cut up from a previous owners speaker install so any clues from the bottom side are missing. I will need to put a new piece of metal in to support the motor. I appreciate the assistance!
  16. Rob, I purchased the package tray from Clark's and like everything else I have purchased from them I am imporessed with the quality and fit. Ron
  17. Hey guys. I have posted a dual quad setup in the Buick - Buy/Sell section if you are interested. Thanks - Ron
  18. This will fit both the 401 and 425 nailhead engines. The setup was removed in the 70's from a '65 Buick Riviera Gran Sport and in dry storage since. The intake manifold is number 1370316. The intake manifold has no cracks or damage and all of the mounting holes are in excellent shape. The carburetors are the orginal units. The front carburetor has a part number of 3645SB and the rear carburetor has a part number of 3925SA. Everything moves freely on both carburetors. This is a well preserved and unmolested original setup. I do not have the linkage. Asking $750 or best offer plus shipping. You can PM me or email me at rluchene@mindspring.com. My phone number is 919-971-2074. Thanks - Ron
  19. Don, I purchased my veneer from Ovis through Amazon. I got a 2'x8' piece of veneer with the 3m sticky backing for around $50. I applied two coats of oil and then two coats of lacquer. I waited a couple of days for the lacquer to cure and then taped off for the black pinstriping. I sprayed the black and immediately removed the masking tape. I applied two more coats of lacquer after the black dried. I am very pleased with the results and I have less then $65 in the entire project with veneer left over. Ron
  20. Rob, Having spent some time with the previous owner of your car, I am aware of the back story and I know how much he wanted to see this car restored in memory of his late brother. You are certainly doing it justice and I hope he has a chance to see this thread and get a feel for the commitment you have made to the restoration of this Riv. Great job! Looking forward to the rest of the story. Ron
  21. oh but wait...you get an engine stand that needs to be rebuilt!
