  1. I believe that later Hupps had the headlights mounted higher in relation to the radiator and fenders. ...and 30 Hupp...good call on the tall filler neck for the radiator. I recall that David's Dad made a new firewall, from rosewood if my memory serves - it was beautiful !
  2. I had a parasitic drain in my 1986 Suburban. The battery would gradually discharge to the point of not starting the truck if I didn't use it at least every week or so. Disconnecting the negative terminal after driving would allow it to remain fully charged for months at a time. This 3/4 ton big-block 454/400 tranny model is still a back-up to the newer Suburban and Excursion. I probably should sell it, but it has been so dependable, despite a couple of rust through spots in the left-side lower fenders, and we just redid an expensive re-upholstery and headliner. This beast is a natural hauler, and could pull my house down the street.
  3. " NOW HIRING DRIVERS - PRIOR EXPERIENCE NOT REQUIRED"
  4. It sure looks like a 1909-1910 Hupmobile Model 20 to me Maybe David Coco can ring in on this one - his beautiful white 1910 Hupp was one of the first I had seen up close. I later transported a black 1909(?) Hupmobile Touring for John M. (Buddy) Walton, Jr. from New Orleans to his daughter in Marietta, GA sometime in the late 1980s or early '90s. The fender line of these cars is very distinctive !
  5. This item is most likely from a "Big Car" - typically Packard, Franklin, Pierce Arrow, etc of that ilk, not from a Chevy or Ford
  6. Tom, Yes, our '37 Roadmaster has the wiring for the Tripp Lights run through a toggle switch under the dash (right next to my switch for the electric fuel pump). I think this is a good idea, but then ours is a tour/driver, otherwise essentially original with her HPOF and AACA ORIGINAL. Still the original top, too!
  7. Get one from Doug Seybold in Westlake, Ohio - the 40 Buick guy. He has a large quantity of spares and could likely help you: Buicks by Seybold 440-835-1193 2761 Clark Parkway Westlake, OH 44145 USA 40BuickGuy@gmail.com Doug is a true Buick specialist - repairs, restores, shows, and drives his Buicks mention I sent you
  8. Archie's sons - Cooper, Eli, and Payton all played for Newman High School in New Orleans, and were exceptional - three brothers, and all great athletes. Too bad Cooper was injured during his College Freshman year.
  9. Yes, an old post, but if you click on his name, and then on email, you might get a message to him

  11. Seattle came to play, and played to win! Being from New Orleans, we were pulling for Payton, but, the only team to keep the New Orleans Saints from advancing to the Semi-finals in the play-offs was Seattle! Tough decision?? Not really --- GO HAWKS, but ask Payton to make a respectable showing... Did he? Well..... at least he didn't storm off of the field and refuse to talk with anybody, like he does after a loss. His brother Eli looked so sad, sitting there behind the glass, just watching, and where was Dad Archie??? Not exciting, but then Superbowl games can tend to be that way.
  12. Now we are just outside of Philadelphia Expecting 3 - 5 inches of snow Monday !!
  13. Hi Robin, Same company made my new wires - we had them do it as original - except that the car has a SIGNAL-STAT period-correct turn signal. the fender and tail lights are set up with a dual filament socket and bulb - still 6-volt, and works fine.
  14. I had Remco in Cadillac Mi do the new Ring and Pinion gears for my 1914 Buick B-37, and changed the ratio. It was originally 4.08:1 Now it is 3.31:1, and is much less stressed while touring comfortably on the road. Of course stopping ability is unchanged, so we do not exceed 75 mph (LOL)
  15. PIPER CUB FOR SALE --- WITH OR WITHOUT TRAILER !!
  16. We had three days of winter in New Orleans last week - barely got above freezing for more than ten hours at a time. 1/8th inch of sleet/freezing rain, so everybody stayed home. No gridlock like Atlanta. North of Lake Pontchartrain they even had between half-inch to 2-inches of SNOW !! Back to 65 degrees Friday, and mid-70s Saturday and Sunday --- but we're on our way to AACA's ANNUAL MEETING IN PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA !! .... bet it gets cold there !!
  17. Thank you Mr. Moskowitz and Mr. Hinson for your "on-target" responses. It is important that such misinformation be addressed and corrected
  18. Rather than replace the differential and be limited to the new ratio which may be fine for high speed cruising, but not as suitable for mountains, you might pursue an overdrive unit which would typically give a 30% reduction in engine revs when desired at highway speeds. Mine was built by Lloyd Young in Canal-Winchester, Ohio, using a vintage Borg-Warner unit, and works beautifully. The cost was very reasonable. My 1930 733 was built as an export model with the 5.08:1 reduction ratio. It was delivered in Paris, but spent her life in Monaco and the French Alps, where the ratio was right for a 7-Passenger model. Driving the Hills around Chattanooga, Tennessee on the most recent Glidden tour, the standard ratio was fine, but when cruising a relatively level and higher speed road, just going for the overdrive made the ride a pleasure without higher revs. When cruising at 60 mph, the engine thinks we are doing 42 mph. All we had to do after adapting the overdrive to the differential housing, was to either shorten, or build a new shorter driveshaft. Lloyd's phone contact information is: (614) 837-7832
  19. I also believe that it should be varnished, but agree that Dean would be a good resource.
  20. I agree - we need to get John on the Reliability Tour, as well as coming to Hershey!
  21. I strongly recommend D&D Automobilia in Mt Airy, NC Good folks and excellent work! and his brother has done restoration work on several of my cars
  22. Me too! The Caddy and Buick started right up - even with colder than normal temps today.
  23. My guess is 1931 or 1932 The distributor cap has provision for eight (8) spark plug wires besides the coil wire, and the side of the block seems to confirm 8 plugs, so 1931 or newer.

The benefit was that they left no residue, but removed the oxygen, and thus the ability to support combustion.
