  1. Thank you Glenn, I appreciate your thoughts. We sold many of the Olds manuals at Hershey but have not had a chance to update the inventory list. I'll do that after we go home following the Founders Tour in NJ around Halloween. We sold around 35-40% of our stock in total - not too shabby, and many folks were excited to see Oldsmobile manuals in addition to the more commonly found books. We have also acquired a stock of transmission parts, carburetor kits, bearings and seals - etc. - etc. - some of it specific to Olds, I think. Will update when we can.
  2. The pair of Dura-last Gold batteries in my '00 Excursion Diesel failed. As of 9/30/14 the truck had been sitting unused for 3 weeks, and the batteries were dated 5/12, so the pair of batteries were less than 2 years and 5 months old - these are a 3 Year Free Replacement / 5 year Prorated, so they were replaced at no charge (Pun Intended !!). Two concerns -- 1. According to the technician, the old batteries had a Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating of 1,000 and the new Dura-Last Gold is only 750 CCA, with cranking amps of 875. his is considered a "SOUTHERN" battery, designed for high-heat conditions, and will likely not perform as well as hoped-for when the vehicle sits in the underground garage for 5 days in Philadelphia in February during the AACA Annual Meeting - and diesels don't particularly like starting in sub-freezing weather, anyhow. 2. According to the technician, the 5-Year battery generally gets replaced within 2 years, and I was lucky to get almost 2-1/2 years out of mine. Apparently, most battery sales facilities expect you to sell your vehicle before the warranty is needed --- reminds you of the muffler shop and the elderly gentleman with the Model-A -- "..... See you again, boys !!". Planned obsolescence is alive and well !

  5. Hi Matt, looking forward to seeing your pictures of the new baby -- maybe Tuesday? I ran over-sized tires on my '34 for years until the restoration -- it did fine, gave a nice ride, and had more rubber on the road. Another benefit was that the larger tires reduced the engine revs/mile - almost like a mini-overdrive. Congratulations on a great car. You know how much we enjoy our all-original '37 Roadmaster Phaeton. Yours has the same driveline without the excess bulk - a factory hotrod !! -- but then, you probably know the local law enforcement (LOL).
  6. Dave , I sent an email or PM a few days ago about the 12-volt siren Is it a big one or a small please send photo to my email thanks
  7. We will double-check the list, but I don't think so --- sorry, if we had one, it would be yours!
  8. John, I've been a member of VCCA continuously since around 1976. I agree with your initiative and support the goal of maintaining originality. For many years we maintained an all-original 1958 Bel-air sedan, and toured extensively with it. My son and daughter learned to drive tours in that 283 - Powerglide car without the benefit of Power Steering and Power Brakes. Later, they appreciated these options when we toured more than 100,000 miles in our 1963 Impala convertible. We also drove several Glidden Tours, as well as the VCCA 4-Cylinder Tour of Yellowstone Park in 1994 with our yellow and black 1927 Chevy Capitol-AA Roadster. The 1952 Deluxe convertible was also a great driver. While these cars are no longer a part of our garage, we still have a 1988 Corvette and a couple of Suburbans. (Pinky says that our Buicks are just Chevrolets with lock washers, and the Cadillacs are a Chevy with STAINLESS lock washers). I believe that it is important to maintain the original goals of our VCCA and applaud you for pushing to retain what we had - not yield to unnecessary change !
  9. Having spoken by phone with Mr. Nittler in the past, we have discussed these same thoughts, including the idea of ZIP codes for surrounding areas. David, providing specific ZIP codes will enable our staff in Hershey to give us lists of national AACA members in those specific areas. We hope that other FORUM readers will respond toward forming a REGION in this area of South Texas, and if you are not yet an AACA member, well this is a very good time to become a member - there are many benefits to membership. I will continue to be available to assist wherever possible. Marty Roth V.P. - Regions Development & Support - Central Division Division 4620 Sonfield St. Metairie, LA 70006 martydaleroth@aol.com
