  1. Where do you live? The reason I ask is that I was at a wrecking yard in Montana that had a couple of those cars there (Freeman’s auto wrecking)
  2. Great thread!! I’ve gotten lot’s of tips on my own frame off restore of my ’64 Electra convertible. I’m doing everything myself though and I am far from a professional. I’ve resigned to the fact that I will have a nice driver (no trailer queen here). Who ever did the welding of the panels on yours did a really nice job and is giving me something to strive for. great job, Can’t wait to see it done! Larry

  5. annnnnnd the next day……. I finish up the back wall plate and finished the RR fender liner.
  6. I don’t know what kind it is but it sure looks like Archie Andrews car!!! :-)
  7. Todays progress. This is the right rear corner of the floor under the back seat. I had to take out the bottom of the brace, cut out the rusted floor panel, clean up as much rust as possible and spray with weld-through primer. I then cut and shaped a new panel and welded it in. I cut another piece to fit in as an upright piece at the back of the new panel. I will finish it tomorrow.
  8. That frame was rusted through. It has been cut up since that pic was taken. It was from my donor car. I wanted to use the one with the correct serial number as well (not that this will ever be a concourse resto).
  9. Here’s my tattoo... The Emblem represents my Dad who has always loved Buicks and passed that on to me in the form of a 1964 Buick Electra convertible, The Cobra represents me and the love I have for high performance cars as well (i have a ’65 Shelby Cobra replica).
  10. Thanks guys, The trans is a 700R4 and the frame is a spare one I have that I mocked the engine/trans up in. The body is almost ready to come off the frame now that most of the rust is replaced..... hopefully these days off :-)
  11. WHY don’t the pics load in the order I put them in!!!!!
  12. So after an exasperating couple of hours trying to get the previous pics up…… I’ll try some more….
  13. OK, lets try again with this #$%^& picture uploader!! Man o man it really sux!!
  14. LOL….. Rob,you are closer to the truth than you know! Except I am driving it more than working on it :-)
  15. and a few more…. EXCEPT THAT ADDING PICS IS NOT USER FRIENDLY ON THIS SITE!
  16. that I haven’t posted anything in a while. I have been doing a frame off resto on my pop’s 1964 Buick Electra convertible. It was originally triple black with buckets and a 425 with dual quads. I became a rust bucket that should have been melted down for ball bearings. I started cutting out rust and welding in new steel a couple of years ago, the driveline is all new with an update to a 700R4 trans. Here’s a few pics:
  17. Most people (myself included) remove the flap from inside the heat riser. I pulled out everything and welded up the holes where the rod goes through. I don't drive in the winter or in cold weather so it didn't matter to me that it wasn't there. no more rattling either.
  18. Interesting thread and a nice job of redoing the air cleaner. At the risk of hijacking I have a couple of questions: 1) did this style of air cleaner always come in red (on all Buicks) or were some black? i want to have a single 4 barrel alternative for my 425 electra. 2) can anyone tell what air filter element this takes? Thanks, Larry
  19. Here's something I ran into with mine.... If you put the intake gaskets on upside down you will get huge vacuum leaks between the intake and the heads. Vacuum leaks will cause a high idle.
  20. Cuba has always had excellent relations with Canada. In fact, to date Canada has one of the very few foreign companies operating in Cuba (Sherritt). It wouldn't be hard to understand how old car parts etc would make it to Cuba. The next misnomer is that the country is impoverished which just isn't true. There are poor people there just like in any country but the high majority working in any aspect of the tourist trade have a very high income. The problem lies in what they can spend it on. There is so little that is allowed into the country that tehy literally have nothing to spend their money on. I have spent a lot of time in Cuba and it is interesting to know that when you go to visit they would love for you bring them batteries, headache medicine, blank DVD's etc as tips just because they have no access to it.
