  4. hey guys, I just bought a 1964 Riviera that I will be picking up in a couple of weeks and will be parting out. The engine is not for sale but the dual quad set up may be available. I would probably restore that before I sell it though as I know the front carb is stuck at this time. Let me know what you are interested in and when I pick up the car I can give you a better idea of the condition.
  5. I live in northern Alberta, Canada. What do you have? Is it a complete engine or a block? Do you have pics? How much? cobravii@shaw.ca Thanks, Larry
  6. I am looking for a rebuildable 425 engine or a 425 block with standard bore cobravii@shaw.ca Thanks, Larry
  7. I'm not sure if the Riviera was the same as an Electra or not but my Electra has the VIN stamped into the trunk opening drip rail on the drivers side about half way bewteen the front of the opening and the rear. You will have to pull back the weather strip to see it.
  8. Thanks for your help guys. I am going to use studs across the board
  9. Like the title reads, I need the long head bolt that is used to go through the alternator bracket for a 425 engine.
  10. Hey guys... first off..... I'm a dumb ass! I'll just get that over with right off the bat! Here's the situation: I was installing the alternator bracket on my 425. I couldn't remember if this is one of the holes that needs thread seal on the head bolt so I put some on anyway. Then I thought that the thread seal will likely cause a low torque reading so I went a little further ( I swear it was only a little). I heard a snap and the head bolt would not torque down any more. I took off the alternator bracket and tried torquing the bolt again and with the bracket out of the way I was able to get it to torque. I felt a little better about that. I decided to strip off the head and see what happened. I found that the threads about an inch deep in the block pulled up and out of the block a bit. 1) does this hole go into the water jacket? 2) is it as easy as putting in a heli coil? 3) I noticed I don't have a longer head bolt on this side at all, is it possible I just need to smooth the surface and use a longer bolt? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do have feelers out there for another block just in case. Thanks in advance Larry
  11. found one! Thanks all.
  12. Thank you Rick for your generosity and your wisdom! I really appreciate it. thanks, Larry
  13. If you want the rad to draw the coolant back into the rad when it depressurizes then you need a cap that seals to the lip of the rad as well as the base of the neck. This way it will suck the coolant back into the rad rather than air from around the top of the rad cap. This will keep your rad full to the top rather than having expansion room inside the rad.
  14. Hi Guys, I have a 1964 Buick Electra with tilt steering. The next step in my project is to restore the steering column. I've got most of it torn apart but I'm stumped on the next step. I cannot figure out how to get the tilt apart. Does anyone have directions on early sixties tilt steering column dis assembly? The manual doesn't seem to be any help. Here is a pic of where I'm at....
  15. I bought a centre section for my rear bumper on my '64 Electra from http://iscrapapp.com/yards/us-north-dakota-mandan-johnsons-wrecking-used-parts/ You have to call them as the don't have a website. I also ordered a front strut rod. In both cases I was very happy and all worked out well. Prices were good too.
  16. I told him that when I talked to him. He said it it couldn't get better than this model! Yeah, yeah.... I know he's lying ;-)
  17. Thanks for the comments guys, Much appreciated! Now to get the real one done!!
  18. my dad bought a brand new 1964 Buick Electra convertible in 1963. he ordered it with triple black, buckets and a 425 with dual quads. It had EVERY available option including auto dimmers except A/C.... We live in Canada eh, no need for A/C lol For decades i have been trying to find a scale model of this car but no luck. As it turns out there never was one produced. i decided to take matters into my own hands. I started with a 1964 Buick wildcat convertible and it had buckets so that was a good start. i spent many hours with body filler and a dremel tool to reshape the rear end. I cut fender skirts from a mustang roof and pieces from many other leftover models to finish it. I found a dual quad nailhead engine on eBay and scooped it up. I also found a model box and had to make a podium for the car to sit on. lastly I made a plaque for the front that reads 1964 Buick Electra. it took almost a year of working on it off and on but was able to ship it to my dad a couple of days ago. he received it today and was in tears....... PRICELESS! Now to finish the original!!!
  19. Like the title reads, I am looking for an oil dipstick for a '64 Buick 425 engine oil dipstick.
  20. Both distributors ave Pertronix electronic ignition. But that is a good point I never thought about.
  21. Rotor lined up "exactly" from one distributor to the other. That isn't a reason for me having to advance the distributor.
  22. Here are the pics of the single quad distributor, 111055; Something to note is that when I took out the 111055 distributor I marked where the rotor was and where the vacuum advance was so I could place the 111058 distributor in the same place. When I tried to start the engine it turned over hard and puffed back through the carbs. i had to advance it significantly to get it to start and then set the timing after it was running.
