From what I read the "late" 50's had a latch plate type arranngment similar to yours." Now let me change it to another year : "No those aren't the same. From what I read the "late" 51's had a latch plate type arranngment similar to yours. You see how it's still restricted to one year ? Why would talking about how hoods from "late 1950's" cars have anything to do with how the hood latches on a specific 1950 Buick ? I stated in the first line that what I have here is a 1950.......that means there should be no other discussion of ANY other year whatsoever........ That established this conversation was about one year, a 1950 or when talking about them as a group thereafter would be reffered to as "50's" , or 51's or 52's or 53's , etc. I didn't come on here to waste my time or anyone elses, but apparently he has plenty of time to waste by showing a picture of something that has nothing to do with a 1950 Buick hood latching system, then goes on to so grossly misunderstand what someone was talking about that he thinks the other person is the stupid one when it's actually him that's off in left field. ======= "PS Dont take what people say as a slam on you, its the fastest way NOT to get answers to your questions. " Trust me, I know this very well, I've got thousands of posts on other boards and am an administrator on a Chevy board elsewhere. I know what it takes to get along, however I also know far too well that condescending and patronizing attitude given to new guys who show up on a board that high-post-count-warriors usually dish out. I guess I was wrong in assuming coming on a Buick only board, Buick "people" would be able to accurately read and interpret exactly what a post says and not "read" other things into it. But I guess I can expect that from a canadian, they truly have a whole different mindset and think in different patterns than Americans. I'll figure it all out on my own thanks anyway.....

I know '41 opens from the outside with a pull built into the exterior chrome. Good luck. </div></div> What do you mean you "like" the late comment ? I meant LATE in the year of 1950.......not late 50's as in 1958 or 59. There are EARLY 1950 Buicks, and LATE 1950 Buicks....as in made after the 6th month of the year. A car made after a certain point in THAT SAME year have certain revisions sometimes, those are reffered to as "LATE" cars. Just an FYI , there are what are reffered to as "late & early" cars in all brands & types, check it out sometime. "I like the comment...." Don't be patronizing and presume someone is stupid or 18 years old with their first car just because they only have 4 or 5 posts. I've been restoring & building cars for almost 30 years. And have probably done more cars then you have ever, or will ever own. This just happens to be the first 1950 Buick I've had and don't have a manual or body book yet. Obviously from your first reply you don't have any idea about any other car than your own. I'm dealing with one year here, A NINETEEN-FIFTY.
  3. Hi, Thanks. No those aren't the same. From what I read the "late" 50's had a latch plate type arranngment similar to yours. The "early" cars had something else, which mine must be because there are no pulls or cables or rods, or places for them, or where the've ever been inside the car. They say the early cars had a release that turned with a key that even had it's own special pocket on the door panel. The type of hinges that are basically hooks, that came stock on this one would make sense with this key system. Thanks again. Brian
  4. I wondered if anyone has any pics of what I need for hood latches for my 50 Sedanette ? From what I read in the archives here, the early ones had what some have called "can opener" style ? That would best describe what I have I guess, I only have what look like 4 hinges that have double stamped hooks on them. So I guess this is the one that takes the key to open the hood ? Here's my situation : The car came with an NOS hood, so there's absolutely no hardware or trim or anything on the hood. All I have are these 4 hinges/catches. What latches or locks the hood down on both sides besides these ? Is there some sort of sliding rod inside the hood that goes under the hooks but inside the rail of the hood so you can open it from either side ? And while you're reading this, would you know anyone that would have this stuff ? I can post a pic if needed, but the hood is missing everything, it's just as you would get it as a new hood as a replacement. Thanks in advance for any help/pics. Brian

  6. Hi. If anyone has a set of windshield & back glass stainless moldings for a 50 Sedanette Super, please let me know. I'm converting my Special/2pc windshield to 1pc. and need to get a new w/s & moldings in it asap after replacing the front floors. Thank you. Brian
  7. Thanks for the input. I guess I'll be using the Super one piece. I want to ad the moldings so I'll have to find a set for front and rear glass.
  8. Hi, Hello from Illinois. I've always wanted a 50 Sedanette and bought one a few months ago. I'm getting started on it now. Hopefully it'll be my daily driver right about springtime. I just patched the front floors which was the only rust in the whole car, which was due only to the windshield gasket being deteriorated. I wondered if anyone knew if the 56S one piece windshield and will directly replace this 2 piece, and is there a one piece gasket like mine in the pic (w/o molding/trim) that will work with it ? Steele doesn't seem to list them this way. Also, does anyone have a good/reasonable place to buy pre-made original seat upholstery & door panel sets ? (not interested in Hampton Coach/LBonney). Thanks in advance for any help. Brian .
  9. Hi all, Just registered and saying hi. I bought a really solid 1950 46s a few months ago and am now in the process of getting it on the road. It is a really complete car, 100% original and unmolsted under the hood, but missing a couple of things and I had some questions, so I'll ask them in another post. In the past I've had a restored 70 GS Stage 1 conv. and a 39 coupe (that I wasn't able to get on the road before someone who wanted to restore it right wanted it Thanks, Brian
