1960 Buick Electra sedan with Factory A/C
JanZverina replied to JanZverina's topic in Buick - Buy/Sell
Thanks, Bernie. The profit I made was 5 years of not only driving and enjoying such a car and its outstanding design, but interacting with a lot of knowledgeable folks and learning/performing many restoration procedures along the way. I was glad to sell it to a BCA member. I recently purchased a rust-free, complete, and fairly unmolested '63 Riv, so I may be spending more time on the club's ROA thread, like you probably do with your '64. -

Yes, I probably priced it a bit light but I had storage costs to consider as well. It's headed up to the LA area but eventually bound for Finland. My new project is a '63 Riv. -

1960 Buick Electra sedan with Factory A/C

Easy. $5800. And I'll throw in the car! -
After almost five years of driving fun, it’s time to part with my 1960 Electra. This is a complete, solid, rust-free Texas car, a true survivor for a model 4719. Original color of Cordovan Poly, with Arctic White two-tone accents (older repaint but still presentable). Original Cordovan ‘Cordoveen’ fabric interior with original dash/door panels/headliner in good to excellent condition. Third 3rd owner, clear title, 117K miles. Just about everything works (including the Sonomatic tube radio) except for the A/C. I never tried to get it to work but all the components are there. Minor power steering/oil leaks but not bad for a 54 year-old! Drives smooth and straight. Recent work includes: · Complete new front end (steering and suspension, bushings, shocks, ball joints, etc.) · Delco rear shocks (with air leveling system) · New freeze-out plugs, hoses, belts, motor mounts, etc. · Pertronix ignition and new high-capacity battery · New torque tube ball kit · All new body weatherstrip kit (Steele Rubber) and hood insulation pads · Front seat belts added · Master cylinder, water pump, generator * · Re-cored radiator, new clutch and fan assembly *Rebuilt by BCA experts, not low-quality remanufactured exchanges. Asking $5800.00 including spares such as an expert-rebuilt water pump, OEM seat fabric, and even a set of rear fender skirts! Note to Snow Belt residents: I’m willing to store car in a large, secure single-car garage (at new owner’s expense) for a limited time for a buyer residing in cold-weather states. I’d like to see this car go to a good home and a Buick enthusiast. Please PM me as an initial contact with any questions.

Torque Converter, front pump for 1963 Dynaflow

Much appreciated, Kaycee!

Nice pictures! Your car looks nicely optioned. As mentioned, I have the same ext./int. color combo but no A/C or power windows, and no four-note horn! The body and chassis manuals are pretty available on eBay, but you many want to make sure you are getting an original and not a reprint if that matters to you. You can get them in good shape for $35-$40 each, and they are invaluable. (You'll see detailed drawings of that four-note horn, for instance). These 1963 manuals cover all series of large Buicks, with sections exclusive to Riviera (series 4700). Also, I'll pass on some advice I received here on this forum, and that's to spend a $20 bill on a color-coded wiring diagram from www.classiccarwiring.com. It may be the best $20 you spend before getting into any electrical repairs! Keep us posted!

Will a torque converter and front pump from a 1961 Dynaflow fit a 1963 Dynaflow? I'm told that 1961-63 Dynaflows are all the same but I'm sure there are some forum members who can confirm this. Thanks!

I know Ed - I'm waiting for CARS Inc. to get the correct emblem in stock - plus my car's been undergoing transmission surgery so it's been a lower priority. But don't worry - despite looking at that prestigious 'R' down the road at the front of the hood, I'll change it out!

Welcome, Your car looks quite similar to mine, which is Teal Mist with white leather. I purchased it recently, and its from WA state, mostly original except for a repaint in the 1980s. I'm pretty sure a square OSRV mirror is not factory-correct. I would guess that factory-original parts being replated or restored would hold more value, even though a car can be only original once, and in some areas of the collector car market these days, unrestored and pretty rough "barn find" cars can sometimes command a premium over a well-restored one. White leather was offered as an extra-cost option with Teal Mist. Try Clark's Corvairs for retrim kits - yes, I know it says Corvair but they have a small catalog of early Riv parts, from interior kits to hard-to-find doorjamb switches. And if you have not already done so, join the ROA. Best $ you'll ever spend.

Torque Converter/Front pump for a '63 Riv Dynaflow
JanZverina replied to JanZverina's topic in Buick Riviera
OK, my new question is, does anyone know what year torque converters from a Dynaflow will fit a '63 model year transmission? Thanks (I've also posted this on the Buick Post War forum) -
Torque Converter, front pump for 1963 Dynaflow
JanZverina replied to JanZverina's topic in Buick - Post War
Thanks, Rob. I have the knowledgeable people lined up to do the rebuild, but the torque converter is truly toast. Many of the fins are broken off and caused a lot of internal scoring an shearing (I will try and get some pix). My new question is if a '61 and '63 Dynaflow converter are interchangeable. -
Does anyone know where I can source a good torque converter and front pump for a '63 Dynaflow? And are these parts rebuildable? Thanks!

Thanks for the timely note, Jim. I just picked up the same Precision parts at my local O'Reilley's north of San Diego this morning. Their catalog calls for a #234, #235, and the #534G (for the center support). But I can't for the life of me see the difference between the 234 and 235 parts.
-
Thanks Ed - I picked up this mount at O'Reilley's this morning for a bank-busting $6.99. I'll let you and other ROA members know how it works out once things are back together. Much appreciated!

(Our messages must have crossed) OK, I see what your saying now. So essentially one has to third drill a hole between the two in the crossmember, right?
-
Thanks, Ed - so this is an image of an Anchor 2360 trans mount for a 78 Riv w/a 403: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/ANR0/2360/03234.oap?year=1978&make=Buick&model=Riviera&vi=1021576&ck=Search_C2251_1021576_-1&pt=C2251&ppt=C0338

Thanks, Ed. For reference I posted pix of my shot mount, which as far as I can see has no studs. I can compare it to a 1978 Riv 403 mount and see if my guy has any ideas how to adapt it, but any further suggestions are welcome! Thanks!
-
I guess what I mean to ask, is which 1978 Buick model ST400 application in particular?
-
Sounds great! Is the ST400 (super turbine?) for a Skyhawk or other applications?
-
Anybody out there know where I can get a transmission mount for a '63 Riviera (Dynaflow)? I see CARS Inc. does a rebuild/exchange but I have to check turnaround time on Monday and I thought I'd check here on the forum first. I'm also looking at replacing all three U-joints but I can source those locally. If anyone has any thoughts on those, I'd appreciate it as well. Thanks!

Thanks, Tenugent. They say OOS until Feb.
