  1. Columbia 2 Speed Axles were either ordered from Lincoln with the original car order or as an add on axle by the local dealer. The factory supplied axle had the speedometer cable connection on the rear axle itself while the dealer installled axle used the drive shaft "turtle" connection to operate the speedometer cable. By 1941 when the Borg Warner overdrive became available to Lincoln owners the sale and use of the Columbia overdrive unit rapidly became obsolete. I believe the axle driven speedometer connection was dropped when the 1940 Lincoln model cars were introduced.
  2. Scott, Metro Moulded Parts makes the rubber gasket pads for your trunk hardware. I "Googled" metro moulded parts, select the first selection when their web site pops up and then select "search for parts." Enter year, make, and "continental." Scroll down to MP 817. They also have a few more parts you ming need also.
  3. The "operating stud" as the chassis book calls the pre war fender skirt lock nuts were originally chrome plated. Reproductions were made in brass (when the original stock became extinct) to be plated by new purchaser. Some owners just painted the lock nuts body color to blend in. Later reproductions were made of polished stainless steel...eliminating the chrome plate...saved money. Go with the stainless if yours are messed up from usage. Judges won't know the difference...
  4. Mprning Jim. Suggest you contact the clubs technical advisor Jake Fleming at 1 214 332 3197. Jake rebulds our coils, sets up our distriutors and does the Lincoln car radios. A very versatile fellow.
  5. Hey Jeff, Welcome back. How's the 39 survivying without you? Check with Jake Fleming in Dallas for the distributor timing and coil rebuilding. Try 1 214 333 3197. Come on back, we all miss you and your 39.
  6. Ken, you are right. Forgot about the dealer installed Columbia. Makes sense.
  7. Your master chassis parts catalog and the year of manufacture body parts will really solve a lot of the questions posed by our Lincoln Zephyrs. We'll worth having both catalogs in your Lincoln restoration library.
  8. I may be wrong, but the rear axle drive was used on 1938 cars. 39 and on used the drive shaft speedo mounted unit. 86H 4010 was the rear axle unit and 96H 4010 for 39 and thru 41 when Lincoln fully adopted the Borg Warner overdrive units. John Connelly could confirm this with a phone call. Ron, your 40 LC uses the later unit.
  9. Got a part number or picture of the part wanted?
  10. Jim, if you will look at ebay 121255290168 you will find the valve you need for the drivers side head. If you "ain't" got it...get it...Thats what you need.
  11. Jim...wjy do you have to crawl underneathe to find the valve? The valve should be in plain sight on the drivers side engine head if you have one. If not there then you should have a plug. If you have an aluminum head with a plug in it, be very careful in removing it as electrolisis might have bound the plug to the head and removing it night cause the head to crack. Many drivers side aluminum heads were ruined because of this problem. Check the fan motors by touching the wires to your 6 volt battery. I have a good fan motor if needed. If you have the firewall heater unit, then you should be good to go with heat. The Chassis parts book illustration shows the proper hookup. If it was me living in Washington State I'd hole up for the winter and just venture out in the warm weather...course I'm in Florida...
  12. Last year I called and talked with his mother who helps in the busines. I asked about my 41 LZ sedan sill plates. Still being made but anywhere from a six or more month wait for them. The catalog I have shows him making sills for 56 different cars. No problem when you are restoring a car. Need one for your Stutz?
  13. 40 zeph sedan...Paul, your heater hose is connected in 1940 to your drivers side water pump. 1941 cars had their hot water source from the valve in the drivers side head. I'm sure you meant the water pump not radiator
  14. Jim, there is no coolant being circulated ....just hot water. The fan blows the hot air being heated by the hot water from the driver's engine head. Just a simple system. The valve you might need can be found on eBay 121255290168. The valve is left open in the winter and closed off during the summer days. Just touch the fan wires to your 6 volt car battery. The fan will turn if good. If dead, I may have one.
  15. Joe, you might want to call an outfit in New Jersey that manufactures aluminum door sills. Business is called "DoorSills" and the old catalog I have of them shows them making them thru 1941 models. Call them at 1-973-423-1196. They might be doing them now or know of someone who might be of help. Also, there is a guy I believe in Alabama who vulcanizes the doorsills for the 36-39 Zephyrs, maybe he can help or know of someone.....Think the name is "Avery" or "Huntley". I believe a club member in Alabama by the name of Ken Harris who is doing a restoration of a 39 LZ might know of him. Call Ken at 334-365-9593 Good Luck
  16. Tom; All Lincoln Zephyrs from 1936 thru 1948 were Lincoln 12 cylinder engine powered. Your part is not from anyone of them.

  18. The raised tail lights appeared late in 1941 to give a brighter stop light illumination. Very rare. Plastic repros are available. Try Boos-Herrill's on the LZOZ website under "Sources."
  19. Has anybody received their 2013 LZOC membership directory or am I the only member without one?p
  20. Jim, if you will email me your address I will make you a copy of the parts catalog page that shows the hot water heater system. Emali me directly at johnandmarjorae@embarqmail.com. John
  21. Sorry Lee, you are incorrect...1941 Lincolns HAD available to them either a hot air or hot water heating system. Lincoln production record cards show the option..either hot air or hot water. Even your 42LC had hot water heating systems available. The hot air system was phased out in 1946...a few 1946 models had the hot air system. 1941 Lincoln chassis parts catalog list two pages of parts for the 1941 Lincolns. There is a accessory bulletin that Lincoln put out in 1941 listing the optional hot water heating system for their cars. Even the 1940 Liincoln chassis parts catalog lists a very rare 06H 18455 hot water heater complete with dual defrostethes as special equipment. Also, my 1940 LZ Brunn towncar has the hot water heater system. The hot water heater system was available in 1941 for Lincoln cars...both Continental and Zephyrs.
  22. Jim. Page 332 of the master Lincoln Chassis Parts Catalog show the complete layout of the hot water heating system for you car. You NEED this book as a constant source of parts layout operation on your car. So many questions are answered by just looking in this book for illustrations of the various operational parts. If you are a member of the Lincoon Zephyr Owners Club you will find the suppliers of these missing or broken parts. Earle Brown under the "sources" icon on this LZOC website is a source of many mechanical LIncoln parts. The master chasis parts catalog is the number one go to for your need Lincoln library. I am surprised that so many Lincoln Zephyr owners do not own a copy of this valauble book. IT answers so many questions. You need to become a member of the Lincoln Zephyr Owners Club. So much helpful information on our cars is avaliable from members. Car judging is based on what the car looked like and contained when newly manufactured. Not original... points are deducted. Exhibitors strive for originality. Get the master parts book...worth its weight in gold. Happy New Year and enjoy you Zephrying. Merv Atkins also on the website under "sources" is also an excellent source of Lincoln parts since he is in your are on the West Coast. Very knowledgeable LZOC club member. Come join us. We are here to help you.
  23. The 1940 Chassis Parts book shows a 96H 18420 as being a guard front bumper special equipment being available for the HB and 86H model Lincolns. So evidentallly they made the 39 96H center bumper guard as also usable on the earlier year cars. A similar listing for a center rear bumper guard for the HB, 86H and 96H cars uses the same 96H 18420 (39 Lincolns) for their back bumpers. A versatile part being able to use for front and rear three model year cars.
