John Murphy replied to a topic in Lincoln & Zephyr
Joosten, go back to this LZOC web page and click on "sources" icon. Scroll down to "Narragansett Restorations" click on it and print out their catalog. You will find what you need from that source. Good luck -

John, the correct bulb for your dome light is GE 81. This should brighten your day.
-
John, you might want to take your dashboard ash tray receptacle to your local automotive paint supplier. They should be able to match the color with a modern formula by the ashtray face.
-
Suggest you contact Chris Dunn at Lincoln Land, Inc. in Clearwater, Florida. Chris specializes in your year Lincoln. His parts number is 1-727-446-2193. Long time 60's Lincoln supplier. Should have what you need.

Ron, I don't think you have the correct LC bumper. Most 1940 LC's had a bumper mounted rear tail/license ("cobra") light that mounted on the rear bumper with a center hole to mount the light. The real early 1940's had their "cobra" lights on a mount that was attached under rear of the car. This mount was later changed by Lincoln by mounting the light directly on the bumper. The bumper you have without a hole is a Lincoln Zephyr bumper as is your bumper with a below center hole? The correct LC rear bumper would have the center hole evenly spaced in the middle of the bumper. If your car has the frame mounted tail light then the "holeless" would be correct for your car. Don't know exactly with the mounting changed but it was early in the 1940 production year. If you go with the bumper mount, remember the hole needs to be square for the oval bumper bolt you will need to be using.

As for your inquiry about trunk material...contact a national vendor by the name of Bill Hirsch who has been supplying trunk material for eons. Contact him at www.billhirschauto.com. Tell what you need. Should be able to help. Have fun.. If you need any further authenticity questions before you get your "authenticity manual", give me a holler. Email me at johnandmarjorae@embarqmail.com

Hey Jim, the master parts catalog on page 306 list three "cover assembly (rear bumper hanger) numbers 06H 17808, 16H 178and 2hH 17808 which show the cove plates (rear stone deflector) being used on all Lincolns and Continentals since 1939. Very rare units. Most get mangled and never got replaced after rear end collisions. You are not the only one to complain about the LCOC authenticity manual supplier. Another LZOC member has had is check cashed over two months ago and still waiting the manual and even a reply to his emails. Maybe a phone call to the LCOC president might stir up some action. Something needs to be done.

All LC's from 1940 thru 1948 had upholstered trunks. Check with your restoration manual for complete information and patterns.
-
Matt, the number 605 on the plate is the interior trim code. 605 in the Lincoln parts book says" MEDIUM GRAY VELOUR and DARK GRAY MATELASSE. Looks ok to me. A nice looking BLACK coupe with factory AC.

Check www.bradleyfloorpans.com. Does super work but very slow...

55 Dude, Your 1940 Lincoln Zephyr Continental cabriolet is indeed body #288 on the production line. Good find. LZOC members always able to help with your coming problems....Just email. You need a build sheet (lists articles on car when manufactured) from the Benson Ford Research Center. Look for address under "FAQ" car on this LZOC webpage. Invaluable. Also, print out an application to join LZOC. We are here to help you. Good luck and Happy Zephyring.

Now might be a good time for the owner members of 41 Lincoln Continentals to email the FORUM whether their cars came with gold macoid or chrome finishes. Also, if they have the Lincoln build sheets that state chrome finishes for their cars in place of the original gold finishes. There are almost 150 LZOC listed with 41LC's. How about a reply?

Mr Bwatoe, The LZ Brunns were NOT based on an incomplete 76 chassis. They were built by removing the body from a 73 sedan and substituting a aluminum based body bullt by the Brunn Body Company from Buffalo, New Your.. They were not built on a LZ convertible chassis. Jim Zephyr set your friend straight. He needs to be educated.

Jim, Zefers for 1940 and 1941 could be ordered with the standard chrome trim, or with custom gold macoid finish. LC's had gold macoid as the standard interior finish. Or could be specially ordered with gold delete and standard Zeffer chrome trim. Are the dash instruments chrome or gold finish in your car. That might answer your question.
-
Jim, your forthcoming authenticity manual should give you a complete guide as to what should be on your car as it came from the factory. On page 77 under interior hard trim that the 40 and 41 LC's had pale gold macoid finish door hardware. What is the finish on the dash instrument bezels? Should be gold macoid. LCOC and LZOC clubs accept gold plating as gold macoid finish is no longer available, If your car was produced by the factory and stated on the car's build sheet that chrome hardware was substituted by the owner in place of the gold macoid finish on the car's brightwork then you need to have gold finish on those instruments. Factory build sheets state what was on the car at build day and what was ordered or substituted, such as blackwall tires, specified paint, interiors, etc. On page 47 under C ornament 40 and 41 ball and spear: ball is gold lacquer; spear- chrome. Maybe the previous owner didn't want to pay to plate the ball as the 40-41 ball and spear were one piece...the extra expense to gold plate the ball itself. Take time to really read the authenticity manual. You will be amazed what is and is not authentic on your car. You will really be surprised what previous owners did to the car. Get a copy of the build sheet from THE BENSON FORD ARCHIVES for your car. Keep the authenticity manual and the build sheet with you at car shows (if your car was built by the factory different than norm). to correct the judging if necessary.

where was the article about vibration dampener in twotz
John Murphy replied to Mssr. Bwatoe's topic in Lincoln & Zephyr
Jeff, look back to the year 1986. Old faithful Tom Lerch did an article on the vibration damper. See Volume 19 issue #1 the February-March issue. Pages 6 and 17. Go for it Me. Bwatoe. There also was a short article in Volume 7, issue #3 by Roy Tucker. -
Email me and I will send you one.
-
Sorry crusty-coupe...the master Lincoln chassis parts catalog show a 96H number for a 39 LZ speedo cable...both with or without a Columbia overdrive. 96H means a Lincoln part only.
-
Jeff, my last set of Zeffer blades and arms were bought from a well known LZOC dealer who really knows his Lincoln parts. The arms are 10" flattened out and are the same as your picture #2, The wiper blades are 9" and are the same as you picture #3. The parts were bought for a 1940 LZ The 1940 arms use a chrome nut to fasten the arm to the housing. 41 Zeffers arms just slip over the chrome housing rotating shaft.

Lee, send me a picture of what you broke. Is it the upper gear around the shaft? Would super glue work?
