I have a home you might be interested in. It is a 3 bedroom, 2/2 bath with 3 car attached garage, a 4 car garage and a 60 x40 metal workshop in the back sitting on 12 acres in nw Ocala. I am a LZOC long time member with two early continentals and 2 early Zephyrs in residence. The total car capacity is 11 cars...three in attached garage, 4 car detached garage and a four car metal garage/workshop and office . Surrounding homes are primarily 3 and 12 acre homes. 40 and 41 lincoln Continentals and Zephyrs used the same radiator 06H 8005C which used a wider radiator filler throat opening. The radiator was changed to a smaller filler throat and part number 26H 8005A. Different radiator caps also. Per Lincoln Chassis part catalog. The Lincoln parts “bible”. A MUST have parts catalog for Lincoln owners. Available from the Lincoln parts vendors.

Billbos, go with the the Optima and make sure you have heavy duty cables-good source are 00 or O welding ground cables. Good source is a local welding supply company in your area. Clean engine ground connections. A doubled Otima battery set up works well also. John

Is there a number stamped at the top of the transmission by the viewport. Should start with the letter H and have 6 numbers. If it's there what is it? That will normally denote the year of manufacture.

John, Buy the Hershey directory when you get there. Look under LINCOLN and you will find the LZOC spaces listed there and the Lincoln parts dealers in attendance. their space numbers and fields they are in. Wear the most comfortable shoes you have. Over 9000 vendors. Bring rain gear possibly for Friday. Enjoy the "circus".

The Lincoln distributor rubber boots are NOT the same as Ford. Check the parts catalogs from the dealers listed under "sources" on the LZOC web page ...you will find what you need. They are good Lincoln parts dealers to deal with the Lincoln products you may need for your car. Good luck.

John, you need to contact "Doorsills" at 81 Graham Avenue, North Haledon, New Jersey 07508, Phone was 973 423 1196. Owner is Raymond Keuhn. Delivery is very slow 6 months or more. One man operation. I don't have a email address handy. I called them direct. This shop produces about every door sill hade for almost any prewar car made. That is why delivery is not quick. Dan, you need to contact Merv Adkins in California. He is a well know Lincoln parts dealer who might have your missing piece from on of his numerous parts cars. Much easier with the actual lip available than trying to fabricate the whole missing piece.there is just a small metal that juts from the missing lip that the trunk lock catches on to and locks the lid in place. The missing lip looks almost like a square "J" shape and flat on the bottom...the weatherstripping lays in this lip. What's the status of the lid itself?
The missing lip has the weatherstripping glued to the rim. Completely surrounds the trunk rim. This is available from Narraganset Reproductions you will find their printable catalog listed in their ad on this LZOC webpage. Go back to the webpage and clic on the "sources" icon and print it out . Look under the "rubber" section for the weather stripping.
What is the status of the trunk lid and lock mechanism? Hope not as bad as the body lip. Looks like you are gonna have lot of welding practice in the future.

Michael, go back to the LZOC web page and click on the catalog of Narragansett Restorations. Print out their catalog and look on page 18 and you will find a number of convertible top items they list for sale including the front top bow and some hardware. God luck

Ron, not too many 40 LC/LZ rear bumpers floating around these days. I'd have it welded and then plated. Check with your local chrome plater. You could even forget about it. I doubt if you would be penalized for it on a show field. Save the cost of the welding.

Ron, the hole to mount my 40 Cobra light is in the exact middle of the bumper not below the center line. Looks like your previous owner mounted something else there. The face for the rear bumper mounted light is a slight point to hug the inside of the bumper perfectly. Any pictures of the rear bumper from the previous owner?

Just make sure the manufacturer of the battery makes this removal possible and not cementing the battery in place like some do. An expensive lesson I found out. .........

Batteries with the "Lincoln" logo are expensive (in the $300 range and the dead battery may not be able to be removed and replaced. The last "logo" battery I bought died and while trying to remove the dead battery for replacement discovered the manufacturer set the battery in the case with and inch of dried in place resin....not removable. Blew $300. If you are not showing the car you could use a good 6 volt tractor battery from Tractor Supply or another similar retailer. I've been using Optima batteries for over 10 years and have good results with them. Not in a "logo" case. Amazon.com sells the Optima battery at a good price. Just Google Optima Battery for sellers info. There is also a battery system available that uses 2 Optima batteries for starting but not in a logo style case. Double the cranking power for our old tired V-12 engines.

Jim, there is NO listing or illustration in the LCOC (continental) restoration manual and the same for the Zephyr restoration manual. You should be able to get the Zephyr restoration from Earle Brown. As for the LCOC manual you might email John Talbourdet the president of LCOC and explain your problem. Email at "President@LCOC and explain your problem...he should help.
The 41 parts manual shows the "cover, bumper" part number as 16H 17808. I am assuming that the lack of an illustration is that many 39, 40 and 41 LC an LZ's lack the cover as they probably not replaced after a rear end accident. The crumpled remains were discarded as no replacements were available. Lots of 42 thru 48 covers are still available.
If you are trying to make one, I will be happy to remove the one on my 41 LZ and measure it for you.
Long time LZOC member Tam Akins used to make a fiberglass reproductions for the 41 cars. You might want to call him at 740 922 5738. He might have some left.

Our club and hobby has lost a great friend. Tom Overfield passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 in Kent, Ohio. A friend to anyone in need, mentally and physically, Tom was there to help us with our problem Lincoln’s. I lost a great friend, the club lost a fountain of knowledge. Our thoughts are for Patricia and his family. John Murphy
