  1. I took my 55 Roadmaster to Classic radiator to see if they could get my inop A/C working. They tried for a couple hours with no luck, charged me a nominal fee for the trouble(i Subsequently fixed it myself with the help of Willie). They seemed honest. The owner has a 55 Roadmaster he is restoring. The shop was filled with pre 70's cars in for repair.
  2. Same problem when I got my 55. I moved the knob back and forth, that seemed to clean the contacts(unless wire is broken).Lights work pretty good now. In the mean time keep an eye out for a spare switch.
  3. What's the exact problem? No headlamps? No dash lights? Nothing?
  4. Hot beer in NYC, Pabst Blue Ribbon. I'll stick to Rheingold.
  5. Button on left is starter(will return to gas pedal start one of these days).Power antenna, pretty sure original. White stripes on knobs I have seen with and without. Been told some factories did some did not(my car born in Atlanta). When I repainted my dash, there was faint white paint on the knobs so I redid them that way. Some don't like the look, too busy, but aren't all cars from this era a little busy?
  6. Bought Daytona last year for Roadmaster 4dr. from SMS. Been told it is original type carpet. Needed to be trimmed mostly the length of the sides. I secured it carpet tape. slightly lumpy in some areas but they came that way when new. Made protectors from huge excess. Altogether nice carpet,my opinion.
  7. 55 Buick Ditzler paint chart lists 4 3-tone combos.
  8. Looks like that's the combo in the picture.
  9. ......which may look like this. So not a bad idea to take a peek.
  10. Pump is black. I've see the raised lettering highlighted in white, but not sure if that's original. I have used Dex/Merc for P/S and trans. as Type A is no longer available.
  11. Not sure which one you need but eBay search "carter wcfb gasket" comes up with several sets as low as $10
  12. Progress report: SMS says don't iron headliner. Iron headliner and you will remove 80/85% of wrinkles. Silk/steam setting. SMS and Buick says start from rear. Start from center. I went forward first, then rear. Pictures show nothing tightened up yet. I suspect tacking down edges and trimming excess will significantly improve appearance. Not looking forward to glueing front and rear. Overall I'd rather remove undercoating in the driveway in August. May start returning cans and have someone else finish this job.
  13. I am replacing the petrified vacuum wiper hoses and need to know where the two unions go. Red circle under dash? Green between motor and line to fuel pump? Vacuum comes from lower front hole in fuel pump, correct? Not much detail about wiper system anywhere. Anyone have any pictures? Thanks,Paul
  14. If you mean in the tranny, there will be a mesh screen in the pickup that can be cleaned when you drop the pan. Just did that on my 55,plenty of sludge.
  15. That is how I started. The center rod is the only fixed rod.The rest and the chrome strips have play. I ironed the headliner(from the back) and got 80/85% of the wrinkles out. Gonna give it another shot.Beats the alternative, $600 install at an upholstery shop.
  16. Left/right as well,they are anchored differently.
  17. ...and yes most of those wrinkles are from a cross country trip in 7" triangular by 30" box!
  18. I am going to remove it, hang it on line in the basement with an oil filled space heater on low nearby, see how that works.
  19. I am installing a SMS headliner in my Roadmaster(not fun). This has the 3 three decorative chrome strips that are screwed into the lip of the roof. Do I need to use the original holes for the chrome strips? Got it in half way and it is a little wrinkly. I feel I can get the headliner more taught by moving the strips. SMS claims a little spritz of hot water will tighten up the headline as long as it in half way decent. True?
  20. I usually use 6 jack stands with the trolly jacks parked under as well.
  21. I'd check the floor first. You would be talking about frame damage within the wheelbase, where it is least likely. Put a level on a straight 2x4, for level and dips. If it's a big concern a well equipped body shop can check on frame machine. Cars are funny on jackstands. My 55 Roadmaster's door gaps change and the doors are hard to close when lifted that way.
  22. Couldn't find that part listing. What year/make/model listed for?
