  1. There is only one way I know of with any certainty. First you have to apply the brakes on your car, then make a sharp 90deg right or left hand turn. Next you'll want to come to a full stop.... ( I think you can probably see where this is going... ) Put your car in park, exit the vehicle. Put on your best 'howdy neighbor' face and go knock on the guys door. I have an 89 and a 90 and there really are not any distinguishing differences on the outside, unless it's a 16 valve 89. They should have a fender badge. The steering wheels are different from 89 to 90...but the guy might take exception to you peeking inside his little TC And if he's a real TC aficionado, he;ll appreciate some one else recognizing the little gem sitting in his garage
  2. When I did the install on mine I took the boot between the door and body and pulled it out where it meets the body. I had the same bear of a time trying to work a wire hanger through from the door to the body. With the boot removed at one end it gave me just enough wiggle room to work the hanger through. Once I had the wire sticking out the body end of the boot (outside the boot but not into the interior of the car...) I took the speaker wire that I had coming from inside the car (through the hole the boot covers) put a very small loop in the hanger, looped the wire through, twisted and taped the speaker wire onto itself about 6" long, then pulled the hanger back out through the door with the wire. Be careful you don't pull too hard as you get about halfway out, you don't want to break the wire and have to start over DOH! (don't ask how I know this... ) Take some pics to share
  3. Bill....you missed all the fun of getting the console OUT though... Larry that was one of my first TC fixes also...here's an excerpt from one of my first posts here.. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: "mad_bohemain"</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Ok..so now I have been indoctrinated into the TC school of GRRRR. Took 2 hours to get my console out . Kudos to those of you who have accomplished this feat. To those of you who did it without bloodshed...your're my hero. To those who did it in under an hour..without bloodshed...(or cursing...)you're gods!! I read in an older post that it was a tight fit getting the plugs off the back of the seat controls. It didn't mention however, that you need six years of contortionist training with the circus and another 2 years of dexterity tutoring with a card shark..oh..and you need hands the size of a ten year-old. So anyway...got the console out and dimanteld and all cleaned up. Made wire harness to lengthen the controls ..so that's one job done, now onto the rear passenger window..</div></div> ahh...the memories...lol
  4. Hi Larry and congrats on the new addition to the family.... Ah...seat controls and short wires...yup, that's normal.(and all the forum members nod their head...)They have clip on the ends but it is a bugger trying to get your hand in (you'll need a small one) to get at them. When I fixed mine I made extensions for the wire assembly.I also found that for me, it made the job easier with one of the seats removed. Use the search function on this forum for just about ANY thing you want to know about...someone has done it/broke it/fixed it/modified it/complained about it Welcome to the TC obsession!!!!
  5. I tried calling the guy but he never answered or returned my call.I've seen a number of hardtops around so that wouldn't be to hard to replace. And with the ginger seats on ebay right now you could have a pretty nice set up for $2200-2500 minus the stock wheels... Oh well, my garage is full anyway. It would have been cool to show up at our local car show with 4 out of the 5 available colors.. (White,Yellow,Burgundy and then Red)
  6. WOW...4 hours left and no bids on a no reserve $1500 TC... Is this typical of our TC's value. I know times are tough but sheesh... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maserati-...5fCarsQ5fTrucks
  7. Hi Greg, I did the system replacement last summer as well. I have heard of people using the existing wiring, but if you are planning on upgrading to a higher powered system I would not use the existing wiring. That stuff is pretty thin especially if your going to a system with 4 ohm speakers. If you are replacing ALL the speakers it's not that much more work to include wiring. The only hard part I had was getting the new wiring into the boot between the body and door. Here's some pics of the way I ran the new wiring. Stereo install p.s. Here's a post of the finished system.. http://forums.aaca.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/510443/Re_Stereo_system_install_compl#Post510443 You might not have to tear down the interior as much as I did, but I was dong other repairs concurrently with the stereo install...
  8. Looks like a definite contender... I wonder what bug crawled up the writers ...southside.. .Those size 11 fender dents are probably his from trying to get the thing running. You could easily part out $500 worth of non-essential-to-running parts I would think...
  9. I've shared this on some other forums..though I'd share it here too Merry Christmas and happy new year to all. Here's a tune me and some buddies wrote a couple years ago. It's along the lines of the group TranSiberian Orchestra (just thought I should warn you ) so it rocks...My son did all the guitar work and I'm on bass... http://www.garageband.com/mp3player?|pe1|S8LTM0LdsaSgY1G1amw We recorded this at a practice session while getting ready for a benefit concert. The name of the song is Hark On High...it's a little rough in spots...but it's the only recording I have of this group of guys playing it since they have kinda gone different directions.... Hope you enjoy it....feel free to comment. you know, like ..Loved it!! It Rocks!! You have rocks in your head! LOL HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!
  10. waahhh...I have no room left in my garage, so my garage is full...AND my wallet is empty...bad combination you know how the 'ol saying "The sharks are always around at feeding time.." mine would be.. "At feeding time..I'm always at the wrong end of the pool" LOL Like ghosty said, you should have no problem finding an adoptive family for your TC
  11. Thanks Guys. I'll check that out! Appreciate the help!
  12. On my father's TC the radiator fan doesn't turn on. He was driving it and the temp got pretty high (stop and go traffic) but the radiator fan never turned on. We checked the fan motor (wired direct) and it runs just fine. Is there a fuseable link that powers this circuit? We haven't noticed any other electrical systems that don't work. I know the fan is controlled by the temp sensor near the thermostat, so if not a fuseable link, what would be the next place to look?? Thanks!! Brian

(not anything I'll admit to anyways lol) But that's what happens when you leave the hardtop on...how else can they get a good look inside ?!? lol.... (the 'Mad' can refer to my genius as well sometimes..lolol)
  14. Thanks Red. To compound matters I also had 2 motorcycles that I put in the show as well...kept us busy all day long...
  15. No ill intent meant...I'm happy for any member that finds a car they want at the price they are happy with...I'm not in the market for another car at any price. No harm in stating the obvious.. like I said.. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Mad_Bohemian</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Good luck Lou, I hope it's the fine addition it looks to be!! PS Is it wrong of me to covet the Merkur in your pics </div></div> not wrong at all...there are some gorgeous car at this show! I'm sure EVERYONE who comes, walks away coveting SOME car there..lol Every year we go through this routine at my house...Go to the show look at all the cars, then starting the next day and for about 2-3 weeks my wife will keep on insisting we buy a muscle car to restore!!LOL Today she said " We need to get a muscle car to fix up and put in the show next year" "Dear, you can't fix/restore/rebuild a muscle car in one year unless you do it for a living.." lol. And who is 'WE' ?? usually it's me,myself, and I.Then there is garage space or wallet space to consider... Well at least I know that when the time comes, and I get the itch to build a muscle car...I'll know exactly what to do to get the better half on board.. ...a couple cars shows and we'll be rarin' to go!!! lol....
  17. The cars got attention from a wide range of people... Whether they were young... ..young at heart... ..or too young to even drive... everyone appreciates a good looking car when they see one!!! Burgy ended up being the favorite of the most of the crowd...but the younger folks like the sound system Whitey was sporting' (complete upgrade with dual amps!) All in all it was a ggreat day. My wife and son and the 'kids' had wonderful time! Who knows...maybe next more TC's can come out and play...
  18. FANTASTIC! The only way to describe the weekend! Friday night we had our annual Del Shannon Car cruise. The weather was perfect for top-down driving with lots of sun, temps about 78deg and a nice breeze. 350 cars showed up for the cruise which was about 20 miles long. Along with those 350 cars, right smack dab in the middle of the pack... 3 TCs My cars,'Burgy'... ..and 'Whitey'.... ..and Grandpa's yellow TC. I drove my Burgundy TC, my son drove the white '90, and dad drove his 'new' 91. Got lots of looks when people would see 3 in a row Then Saturday was the car show. They had been predicting thunderstorms and showers all week and even Friday night. But the day broke with clear skies with a few scattered clouds and it stayed that way all day!! Gorgeous!! By the end of the day they had over 595 cars in the show!!!My 2 TC's were the only ones that could come out and play, but they sure had fun!! Got out to the show around 6:20 and got good spots right on the main drag!! We went and got some breakfast the came back and did some touch-up detailing. Then waited for the people to show. And show they did!! and that's only a fraction of the total people and cars there!! Met a couple of people who have TC's at home that "need work" and some other previous owners that really appreciated seeing a TC again! Some great people. Boy oh boy, I was surprised at how much attention those cars drew. I guess people are used to the hot rods, and mustangs and corvettes, but I would watch people and they would all do pretty much the same thing. They'd look at the car, then look at the emblem on the grill, then they'd get a perplexed look on their face. They'd then walk up and look at the 'car show dash tag' that states the year /model/make. Then they would step back and look again. A stroll to the rear of the car...yup,,they're reading the TC by Maserati on the trunk. Then they would really start lookin' her over good. It was GREAT just watchin' people. I put a description on Whitey's windshield: Chrysler TC by Maserati · Prototype appeared in 1985 · Production years: 1989-1991 · Total Cars produced 7300 · Less than half still in existence today That really got people's attention..
  19. Ya see how things go....I take one Saturday away from the forum for a car show and ..WHAM!!! The deal of the year comes up. Sure is a deal....by my calculations it took Lou 15 min. to pull the trigger on that one!! LOL Looks like the stables are going to get a little more crowded at Lou's place!! I actually kinda like the color... Good luck Lou, I hope it's the fine addition it looks to be!! We all know you'd take great care in bringing her back to 'health'!!
  20. Well, after getting my father's 'rust free,in good condition' TC which arrived with: rust at the gas filler door, a dent in the passenger rear corner, a rear bumper hanging down loose at the passenger side and a cooling system with a wad of gunk in the radiator... we got some GOOD news. Took her to a tranny shop (car was in limp mode) to a guy who specializes in rebuilds and foreign trannies and got a call 2 hours after we dropped her off. "She's done." the damages...$150 !! COOL! apparently just a bad sensor! Dad is very happy! I took him to pick it up in my white TC and then we hit the high the highway back home. He was very happy with how smooth the TC rode at highway speeds and how easily she cruised! So barring any unforeseen problems or RAIN, we'll be introducing our 3 TCs to West Michigan at the car show on Saturday!
  21. 3 DAYS OUT AND COUNTING..... Well we got the bumper brackets fixed/replaced and remounted the bumper on my Father's T and it goes to the tranny shop tomorrow. So if they can get it done by Saturday he'll have his at the show! I completed refinishing my wheels today so all that's left is some engine detailing and a final check of the detailing on the interior. Motorcycles are done as well so Saturday will be busy for me! Good thing I'm only 4 miles away from the venue, that way I can make multiple trips to get everything there!! I'm even going to have the dealership DVD playing in my white TC!! I'll take some pics at the show and post them!!
  22. AUG 9th is quickly approaching!! If you are planning on attending and would like to join up to arrive at the show as a 'group' send me a pm. I am planning on being there around 6-6:30ish. At this time my TC's will be there, not sure about my father's as it still needs work done on the rear bumper and tranny. I may be showing a couple motorcycles I recently finished. One I painted, the other we (my son and I ) did a bunch of modifications to...now I just have to figure out how to drive 2 cars and 2 cycles at the same time?!?!lol Here's the repainted cycle.. Here's the modified cycle...

  25. Hey Mark, I have some stuff that I got from a lady that did refinished and repaired my seats. It looks like, and is the consistency of milk. You apply it with a lambs-wool pad and work it into the leather and man this stuff works! My burgundy leather was getting very dry and starting to get some hairline cracks. I applied this stuff in a slightly heavier dose and it made the leather nice and supple again. She buys it in bulk and resells so I'm not sure if she'll give up the name of the stuff....I'll try to get hold of and see what I can find out. In the meantime, you could also try emailing her through her website (www.iloveleathers.com) and ask about it. Her name is Deb. She redid both my black seats for my TC, not sure if she'd remember me... I'm sure she would be able to sell and ship the stuff though... She said she also has it in a spray bottle for touching up just prior to car shows...
