  1. Here's a pic of the hood from another angle.
  2. Have recently been involved with both a '39 120 and a '39 Six and their shifting problems. Part of the story can be seen here for the Six - Packard Motor Car Information - Wade's Workshop [Packard Forums - Project Blogs] And part of the story here for the 120 - Packard Motor Car Information - Wade's Workshop [Packard Forums - Project Blogs] What it really boils down to is these 70+ year old vehicles are suffering from old age. Things have worn out, bushes worn, etc, linkages sloppy and maybe even OVER-LUBRICATED! Be careful about lubricating the linkages, part of the fix is having enough friction so they don't just fall out of gear!
  3. As I said elsewhere I'd think the adaptor kit would be for the 288/327/359 series of engines because the Packard Ultramatic transmission didn't exist before those engines and I'd think the kit is designed to replace one type of automatic trans with another. That said, there is a possibility it could work but would be dependent on a number of factors the major ones being the bellhousing bolt pattern on the engine block and the crankshaft/flywheel bolt pattern as well as any offset/spacing issues with the flexplate when mounted. Others with greater familiarity on the differences, or for that matter similarities, between the 282 and 288/327/359 engines may be better able to advise. Whatever happens, it's a big project!
  4. That's the same '39 Olds I took pic's of in 2008 and 2010! 2010 pic has an extra badge.
  5. Over on the PackardInfo site Rod also posted some pic's. One had this caption "Anyone care to comment on the color? Rubicile Deep is the color listed by Packard to be what we had in mind. Not easy to figure out exactly what that LOOKS like!" Picture at PackardInfo
  6. Are they tyre mounting brackets? Using the keyboard as a sizing reference they don't appear to be very big so unless they are a minor part of a tyre mount they may well be something else. My guess, and it is just a guess, cowl light brackets?
  7. Ebay number isn't for a Packard oil filler tube. This number might be better - 300533190312
  8. Plus numbers from engine, body and chassis may help too.
  9. Manuel, Frank and Layden, Thanks for the confirmation. And the explanation as to the mechanics and operation of said top.
  10. Barney & Dave, Thanks for that. Saved me from doing the research, much appreciated.
  11. I thought someone would either confirm or deny my proposition about why it's called a two man top but not so far. Anyone?
  12. Thanks guys. Gives me a new avenue of investigation.
  13. Gary, Thanks for the lead, but posting this on the Pre-War Buick Forum the advice is that it's not! So, any other thoughts? http://forums.aaca.org/f165/fender-light-299205.html#post856756
  14. An emphatic statement! Thanks Danny. Wonder what it is though?
  15. Guessing! I think it refers to the need for two men to raise or lower the top probably because of size, weight, complexity or a combination of some or all of those things?
  16. I have posted this pic in the "What Is It" Forum under http://forums.aaca.org/f170/identify-fender-light-please-299143.html trying to identify it. A reply suggested it could be '36 Buick. So here I am seeking confirmation, or not! Is it '36 Buick?
  17. A pair of these lights are mounted on the front fenders of a friends car. I know what they're not, '39 Packard which is the car they are mounted on. Would like to know what they are.
  18. Doesn't look like and his band of merry men to me!
  19. Couple of years ago in my '38 Eight(282) Sedan got it up to about 80mph indicated with still more to come. But like O_D it came at a price, but not as costly as his, in the form of a blown head gasket.
  20. jwa, Can't see the pic, looks like it was embedded in the text you quoted. Think you'll have to download the picture as an attachment to your post, see the Attach Files in the Additional Options area when creating posts.
  21. HH56,When I was in the US, July 2007, met a Packard collector in Idaho who had a '55 Patrician with A/C. The pic's I took of it at the time I captioned as "'55 Patrician, Air Con in Trunk" however I never got to look in the trunk. See pic's below, don't know if this helps.
