I have tried to re-stretch the dash leather but the reason it shrank was exposure to heat and sunlight. Not only did it shrink, but it is all but dry-rotted. I tried oiling and conditioning the leather extensively for weeks before stretching it and it still tore. The collagen fibers in the leather are simply too dried out to remain cohesive. Unfortunately, new leather is your best bet.

Well, I'm not a fan of Mr. Obama. This cash for clunkers BS is just one of many reasons. But like everything else in the administration, they're in a total hurry to show folks they're doing something without thinking the problem through. Meltonian has been around forever. Their products are primarily used for boots and shoes, but no reason not to use them on seats. I wouldn't use their boot creams though due to colour transfer to your clothes. Lexol is used in the leather/saddlery industry. Good stuff. The biggest issue is getting the leather conditioners through the dye layer to the leather itself.
