  1. Use about the same gauge wire as the current primary (small) wires on the coil.
  2. If you are near South Carolina, I can recommend Greenville (SC) Transmission Service in Greenville. They can rebuild a most any early automatic including PowerGlide and HydroMatic. They just rebuilt a '54 Corvette PowerGlide for a friend, who was so pleased he took two more transmissions to them.

  6. West, thanks for the referral, but my process really isn't workable for high volume work. There are several people I know in AACA who have experience in injection molding that I'll reach out to if no one responds.
  7. I would recommend having only a light skim turning done unless they are badly scored.
  8. The window needs to be rolled down to open the tail gate. There is no outside latch, you roll the window down, reach in and open the tail gate from the inside latch. If you have the electric rear window, I think that key is the same as the glove box not the door. The glove box lock is easy to pull and take to a locksmith to have a key made. Same if you have a manual crank rear window.
  9. I think the truck market will soften like it did in 2008-2009. Those who do not need them will move to something more fuel efficient and it will be a buyers market for those needing/still looking for one. The longer prices stay high, the more transition there will be. If gas prices fall, many will move back into their trucks and large SUVs.
  10. The driving description is correct, but not the gears. The low position shifts from first gear to second gear. The high position shifts from third to fourth gear. Low gear in the High Range is a higher gear than High Gear in the Low Range.
  11. Check for power at the starter relay when you turn the key to start. If you have power there, check for power output from the relay to the starter solenoid.
  12. Not sure of the age, but they are recaps, so the tread age is less than the sidewalls.
  13. Modifications had begun on this car before the customization. All were reversable to bring this car back to original status. Look back at the interior photo and you will see non-original upholstery, headliner and carpet. The two tone dash has been all sprayed black including painting some of the chrome black. The door panels have been cut for speakers. The steering wheel is shot and needs restoration. Rubber gaskets have been painted over. Dual exhaust has been added. It appears to be a solid car. I don't know what the EBay price was, but it was most likely too high for someone who wanted an original car, considering the cost to correct what was wrong or to someone who would enjoy it as is. I assume the seller was able to get their price in this sale. My preference is always to keep the car original, but it's not my car, so I can't complain. I just hope the parts removed found their way to the restoration market and not scraped.

  15. Did you test that the new sending unit was actually good before you installed it? Did you test that the gauge actually worked while you had the wires disconnected? One or both of these are at fault.
  16. George, I'm glad that you did this. I will be talking to the VP of Class Judging next week on other topics and had added this to my discussion list. Your car is a Class 19E vehicle because all CCCA approved cars are included in Class 19 but it is still on the list for accepted Class 29 cars.

  18. George I'm sorry that you had problems at the Melbourne show, but I believe you also contribute to some of the confusion. You say in your first post that you were unsure what class to show your car, so you selected one at random. But now you seem unhappy because it was placed in Class 29, Prestige Vehicles rather than in Class 19E Classic Cars. Class 29 was created in part to recognize cars with attributes much like cars accepted by CCCA but that are not accepted by CCCA. Your Mark IV was not accepted by CCCA at the time AACA recognized it for Class 29. I do see that CCCA now accepts the Mark IV as a full Classic. Class 19 is for those cars recognized by CCCA, I agree that 19E would be the appropriate class rather than Class 29. As you did not win an award at Melbourne, you can register it for Class 19E the next time you show it in an AACA Nationals. As far as the Do Not Judge status, there is a box to check on the registration form, which will place the car in a Do Not Judge status. Either you did not check that box or if you mailed in a hard copy form, the person entering it failed to place the check mark in the system. When you arrive at a National and pick up your packet and see a problem such as wrong class or that it is registered to be judge and you do not want it judged, it's simple to find Judges Administration and have it corrected before judging starts. These changes can be made until just before judging starts. I don't know if your car was judged on the field or not. The JUDGED sticker placed on your windshield card only indicates that the judging team had addressed your car since it had a windshield card for a car to be judged. This is used by the Chief Judge to determine that all cars on the field were addressed. George, this is not being critical of you, but rather to address your situation and help you have a better experience at your next AACA National.
  19. The wood should be structural to the front seat only. I'm assuming that you have a division window and a fixed front seat.
  20. Welcome to the world of factory documentation. Many times you will find that a factory accessory, especially one from an outside supplier, changes during the production year and nothing is absolute. Factory documentation is your friend.
  21. AACA HPOF judging uses the same standards as Class Judging except for deductions for condition, unless the part is no longer useable due to condition. Valve stems are replaceable items, but should be of the correct original style. The point system is different in HPOF from Class Judging. Incorrect valve stems would be a one point deduction. For your age car, nine deductions would be the maximum deductions to receive the HPOF award and four deductions for the HPOF Original. A sample HPOF judging form is in the Judges Guidelines, which can be downloaded from the AACA Home page under Publications. Dave Bowman AACA HPOF Chairman

  23. With the upgrade to the AACA web site this month, you can now register to judge at multiple Nationals at the same time. Thanks to the National Office for this small, but very important change.
  24. A much appreciated change I found last night is that when you register to judge online and pay by credit card there is no longer a $1.00 processing fee AND you can register to judge at multiple Nationals at one time. Thank you!
