  1. Also post this on the Maxwell forum below.
  2. Blue-black is a very dark blue which almost appears black (ie black with a blue tint) until viewed next to black. I think you will need to find a color sample of what you want to use and have your paint jobber custom mix it. You can start by going through your paint suppliers chip books. Look at the commercial colors.
  3. In 1921, Maxwells were blue-black with black fenders. Little changed until the end of Maxwell. What particular colors are you looking for?
  4. I have molds to reproduce both the Chrysler lens and the LaSalle lens in plastic. Contact me if you need either. danddautomobilia.com
  5. It's a '48 four door sedan and may be a Roadmaster or Super. The model names appeared in two places on the '48's, on the front fender just above the stainless molding and in the round circle in the center of the bumper guard. I can't tell if there is a name above the molding on this car or not. The 1947 Buicks did not have a model name in this location. Also I can't read the round plate in the center of the bumper guard. The Roadmaster name is stamped on a diagonal on two lines Road Master. The Super is stamped "Super" in one line on the diagonal. It's clearly a four door sedan as you can see the shape of the rear side window on the drivers side. The Sedanet is the two door sedan with a fastback rear end. This car has the 1948 hood ornament that has the cross bar in it. The 1947 ornament does not have the cross bar. Also, in 1947 the steering wheel was ivory and changed to black for 1948. Dynaflow was first available in 1948 and standard on the Roadmasters.
  6. Look for frayed wires in the starting circuit.
  7. No deduction if they are a GM factory authorized accessory, just bring your factory documentation along.
  8. I've stayed on the eastern side of Harrisburg many times while attending Hershey. It's about a 30 minute drive and traffic is not bad. The further away from Hershey, the lower the rates are. I've also stayed in York, PA about 45 miles away for a great savings.
  9. Buick introduced turn signals in 1939 and was an industry first from the factory. Accessory aftermarket turn signals were available beginning in the 1920's. Most manufacturers began offering turn signals in the early 1940's although they were options on many of the cars.
  10. Thanks guys. Between phone calls and emails with West and others, I know how to proceed. I have my outer caps off but the inner plates are stuck in the distributor. With the coil off, I've tried tapping them out with no results. Next time I'm at the car I can be a little more aggressive with them, knowing that they are only stuck and not attached some how.
  11. The inner fender is massive on these cars and I believe the fender has to be removed before you can remove the inner finder. Pulling the finder is your best choice.
  12. Don't flush it out. That's what seals the tank. You drain it to prevent pooling of the sealer.
  13. I'm looking for a 1964 Newport steering wheel for a customer to recast. Can anyone tell me it the 1963 Newport use the same steering wheel.
  14. How did you get the spark plug plates out of the distributor? Do the wires have to come out first?
  15. I think your wipers are running very well considering the glass is dry. Rain provides a significant amount of lubrication for the wipers. The correct way to test wiper performance is with the glass wet.
  16. It also appears that you have wider than original size tires that are also radial tires. This greatly increases the steering effort at slow speeds. The correct size bias ply tire will make steering much lighter.
  17. Ed, in fairness to the VP of Class Judging, you did receive a very polite response to your request for a judging sheet which you posted in the photos section of this forum. Congratulations on showing a very nice car.
  18. As far as judging of the Zenith Award cars in the Grand National on Saturday, they are judged by the team assigned to judge the class that the car falls into. They have windshield cards and judging forms just like the rest of the cars in their class. If you believe you are in the same class as a Zenith Award car, you can look at the windshield card and determine the class and award being sought. The Zenith cars have no advantage over the other cars in Grand National judging.
  19. If you are new to Plymouths of this period and six volt systems as well, note that your Plymouth has a Positive Ground system.
  20. A word of caution---In the 1930's and 1940's Chrysler used a larger steering shaft on the 8 cylinder cars. Verify the verify the size of the hole in the hub compared to yours before you buy. Also in some years the hub is larger on the 8 cylinder cars as well.
  21. Post a picture and you may get some response.
  22. To test the temp gauge, just ground the wire to the sending unit and the gauge should go to full hot. If it doesn't move it's in the wiring or gauge. Your lighter trick won't work because the sending unit has to be grounded.
  23. As you can see from the above posts, driving a fluid drive with the semi-automatic transmission is very flexible with many variations. Overall, think of it as an automatic, but one where you have three steps to put it in gear. One, depress the clutch, two, put it in gear, three, release the clutch. Release the clutch while you are standing still, then accelerate. The Fluid Drive clutch disc is not meant to be slipped for starting. It is a rather small clutch and you can wear it out prematurely by slipping it to start every time. On the other hand, using the clutch in backing or close maneuvering is fine and give more precise control of the motion.
  24. It's unfortunate that this show conflicts with the AACA Grand National in Virginia Beach. I know quite a few who would like to attend but they will be at the Grand National. I know I would be there. Good luck on the show and please post follow up results and pictures.
  25. Interesting concept, but you need to increase the wheelbase to Imperial length.
