  1. All Lucas, general quality jokes aside in the 5 or 6 years we had ours I had to replace thr alternator which happens, and nothing else electrical.  Drove it all over New England and upstate NY.  It was a really dependable car.

Guy who bought it did a full restoration and it came out really nice.

Once in a while a one owner car with very low miles will hit the market.  Really, really good examples were around $20k not too long ago.  I think they are a bit more now.

  2. Awesome!!  We owned this TR-6 for 5 or 6 years in the late 80s and loved it!!  One of the most fun to drive cars I ever owned.  Well documented and supported cars with a great club network.  Join the Vintage Triumph Register and maybe more important, 6 Pack which is a TR-6 club.

If you want to annoy any neighbors fit an ANSA exhaust system, looks great but very loud! 😁 😁

  3. I think it's interesting if the celeb was a car person like Gable, Cooper or Kerry, James Garner who I am sure you know influenced the Firebirds chosen for the show.  Clark Gable stands out to me because he was such a car guy.  Someone needs to put a book together on his automotive life...

I know a couple other R107 SL owner's whose cars had been celeb owned.  Seems like they all had one for nearly a 20 year stretch.  One was discovered by reviewing papers that came with the car and was not a feature of the sale.  Might have been Heather Locklear?  Other than a few jokes (use your imagination) that's about all it added up to.

I would imagine many higher end collector cars pass through well known people all the time but it doesn't impact price.  The universe of celebs I might pay a premium for is pretty small.

  4. Funny color is subjective.  The green doesn't trip my trigger like Targa or mulsanne blue or steel cities grey but matching # 4 speed is nice since so many of these are running replacement engines.

Looks like a very nice C3.  Wide price range on these 68 - 72 cars, convertibles do bring around a 20% or better premium.

Had a 71 visibility is much better top down.

I did join Benzworld and there is a tremendous amount of knowledge there.   I’ve found the AACA to be a little friendlier overall and have had just as many questions answered here as by the Mercedes guys.

It only takes 12 to 18 months for them to warm up to you! 😁😁😁

I am hardly ever on BW anymore but if I am stuck, I search BW before I use the factory manuals I think I paid $250 for.  The shop manual cd they used to pedal for these cars is useless btw.  Not the actual content in the books...

  6. AJ I get it.  A set of 5 rims for 40 in decent shape will run you around $100+ per easy at Hershey or through PAC classifieds.  Or you stumble on a set if your lucky, for a "song".  I do know 39 & 40 are different and you don't want "close enough" for that car.

If you can live with high quality repro the caps and rings are still available at Hirsch.

It will look really cool if you make that change.

Subject car, IMO is probably a bit high price wise.  Academic for what you want to do but a lot of work to be done there.

If ypu found a 40 Su 8 sedan in sililar shape for $4 - 5k stuff it up at Tom's and have spare mechanicals..  Or stick on the blingy wheels and sell it for a profit to the bomb guys. 😁
