  1. Last year I tried working with Shiftworks to see if they could reproduce the separate shift gate lenses for the 63, 64, and 65 shift gates.  They worked on it but felt there was not a viable market for them.  They still have one of each that I sent to them for future reference.  Perhaps if enough people expressed an interest, they might see fit to do something.  They have lenses that are close, but not exact.

Since it's highly unlikely that you you would operate 2 or 3 of these power devices at the same time, yes..., it should be fine with one 40A breaker.  Even if you did, the breaker will protect against over current.  Just be sure you use same gauge wire for the new devices as presently exists for the power windows.

Thanks.  Each of the harnesses that I installed was an original . The bigger gauge brown wire and the red wires from each harness are all part of original harnesses so I’m sure the gauge is correct.

  4. My 64 originally came only with the power window option. This past couple of days I added power vents and a power seat. I found original harnesses for the seat and the vent windows. My question.  Can I run the hot wire for each option off one pole on the circuit breaker (40 amp) or should I piggyback a 2nd breaker?

    Thanks,

    Ed

  5. There are three circuits of courtesy lights. Each separate circuit has its own switch. The switch is on the ground side rather than the power side.  All three circuits are controlled by the door jamb switches.  Three separate wires go to the door jamb switch. When you open your door the switch is grounded and all three circuits light up.  So if only one of the three light up, it’s not the door jamb switch.

the only change  I made  with my  sixties Buick s was changed to halogen even with my last 64 Electra convertible, no need to mess around fits straight in; but a huge  improvment, plus I don’t use my car much at nights.

That answers a question I’ve had. I don’t plan on driving that much at night.  And I drove my ‘63 as a daily driver for 15 years with the old fashioned incandescent bulbs. Maybe I don’t need to get too fancy.

  7. I was saying that a guy who is really good can look at old formulae and a new one and tell you, once they’re sprayed out, how close they’ll be.  I had the guys at True Auto do that for me when I painted my 70 Skylark. He told me the colors would be the same but the new one would have a smidge more metallic in it. Once the paint was applied, he was right. Comparing the doors to the door jambs proved he was right.

  8. IMHO, the ONLY advantage of the 200-4R or the 700-R4 or the 4L60-E is the o/d which would pick up some additional MPGs on the higway. To get omph from a 400 in a Riviera would take a higher geared rear end.  My '63 had a 3.91 in it when I got it. The car was used to tow an Airstream.  The 3.91 with a .67 overdrive 200-4R would give you a highway gear of 2.62.  Best of both worlds.  With a 3.07 rear, the 200-4R would have a final drive of 2.05.  Barely off idle @ 70mph

That listing of THM400 non-GM applications is the first time I had heard of the AMC car applications!  I was under the impression that they were in the Borg-Warner automatic transmission camp back then.

Had not heard, in these forums, of the THM700-heritage automatics being used behind Nailheads.  I DO recall a lot of posts in this Riv forum about many installing THM200-R4 automatics, though.  Possibly with some internal "gut" upgrades?  I like the gear spacing of the THM200-family transmissions better than that of the THM700-family transmissions.  Plus the lower power consumption.

One of our BCA chapter members is a retired Buick service rep.  He has told us a few stories about RR using the THM400 transmissions.  At one time, their worked out of an office complex where the RR group worked out of too.  He said they'd ask the RR rep "How's that GM 400 transmission working out for y'all?" or "Is that GM A-6 compressor keeping y'all cool?"  He said the RR people kind of ignored them, as the Buick guys got a kick out of it all.  Seems like RR had previously used the GM Hydra-Matics?

On Jags, one of the popular up-fits for powertrain was a Chevy small or big block V-8 and THM400 automatic.  That was what Jag people did when their Jag six-cylinder engines needed rebuilding.  Cheaper, too.  One issue with the earlier 1960s Jag sedans was the steering rack sending a hiss up the steering column as the power rack-pinion steering box didn't like the higher pressures from the GM-Saginaw power steering pump.  Used to be a shop in Dallas, TX that was famous for these up-fitments.

    Enjoy!

The latest swaps for the Jaguar is an LS engine with compatible transmission.

  10. The OEM color is a powder blue. The lamps are white. Reflected light is th same blue. Colored filters of red are used for the high beam indicator, oil, hot, and amp lights, and green for the turn signal indicators and cold lamp but the lamps are white (clear.)

I want to see if painting these pieces red will cause the reflected light to be red.  In the army red lights are used because red light does not interfere with night vision.
