  1. Pete, the side mount covers look like the one's on my '33 Buick
  2. Larry, if the BCA board does not see fit to present a 100 year award to those attending the meet, maybe the BHA would do the honors at their Friday night gala, and even invite the owners of the 100 year cars to attend (a little incentive to get those early Buicks out and to the meet). It takes a lot of work and dedication to keep those old Buicks running, and the owners that make this effort should be recognized. What better time to start this then at the BCA's 50th Anniversary Meet!
  3. You're right about the FBI GN's without the speed limiter. I worked in AC Spark Plug engineering (Actually part of Delco Electronics at that time), and we were responsible for GM instrument clusters. We had to release a special instrument cluster for the FBI GN's being built. They required a 160 or 180 mph digital speedometer (if my memory is correct), and were being equipped with speed rated tires I don't remember how many of those clusters we built in Flint, but it was a special one time run.
  4. Lawrence, in 2009 I bought a complete trunk upholstery kit for my 41 Special Sedanette SSE model, which used the same trunk material as the Century (Large square pattern). I got it from Jenkins Restoration & Interiors, North Wilkesboro, N.C. It's an exact match for the original material. Mr. Jenkins passed away a few years ago, so I don't know if they still are in business or not, but you might want to check them out. I also bought a reproduction floor mat with the correct carpet insert for the 41SSE and Century (I supplied the carpet and Jenkins bonded it to the reproduction mat.). The quality of both items was very good. Dave
  5. There's a 65 Skylark Gran Sport emblem on on eBay right now. It's part number 4545590. Don't know if that's what you are looking for or not.
  6. Bill, my car was there in 2014 for the "Made in Flint" group. Great Show! Dave
  7. Actually, the purpose of giving away an older copy of the Bugle to a non-member (especially if they are driving an older Buick) is to get them interested in joining the club. The older copies of the Bugle are a great advertisement for the club, especially for those who don't know anything about the BCA. We did this at this years Back to the Bricks Buick show on Water Street in Flint, and actually picked up a few new members. You can check out our Buick BTTB Show on its website http://316waterstreet.org (At least you can if I did this right!)
  8. Derek, the color in the photo is probably off. The color combination (paint code 574) is actually Carlsbad Black lower with Pearl Gray Metallic upper. Wheels are black with silver stripes. Your combination is probably paint code 576 which was Monterey Blue Metallic lower and Pearl Gray Metallic upper. From the looks of your photo, your blue is probably pretty close to the original color. The only other two tone combination with blue is paint code 585, and the the lower blue on that one is called Nightshade Blue, which sounds pretty dark. I like the looks of your combination.! Dave
  9. I just checked out the latest electronic Bugle. I tried to print a page, just to see if it was possible, but nothing seemed to work. If I can print a page that I want a hard copy of, I can give away a lot of older Bugles. Any suggestions? I'm using Windows 7.
  10. Frost warnings for lower Michigan in a couple of days, so....... time to tuck the Buicks away till the snow melts next year. Now, if there was only a way to figure out how to convert that woodpile into gasolene........
  11. A great idea for the "Great Race". The Buicktown Chapter did that very thing back a number of years ago when the Great Race made an overnight stop in Flint. It was pretty neat seeing both sides of downtown Saginaw St lined with Buicks greeting the racers as they came down the main drag at the end of their race day. We got a lot of smiles from the tired drivers (especially those driving the Buicks!) as we waved and "honked" our welcome. (I think I have some home movies of that event somewhere.) If I remember right, some of our club members stayed on to help make some late night repairs on a couple of the race cars.
  12. I agree with the idea of posting the BCA By-Laws and Standard Operating Procedures on the BCA forum. The Buick Driving Enthusiasts division of the BCA has had their by-laws and standard operating procedures posted on their website for several years. Easy for the BCA board to keep them current (along with a history of revisions) and an easy way for most of the membership to access. That generally settles a lot of questions before they become issues. It even lets potential new members learn about the operation of the club.
  13. Pete, looks like a good find. If you still need the hood moldings, let me know. I have a set for '41 40 series. Both have a small ding towards the front, the stainless steel is pretty easy to work out and buff. Let me know and I'll send them out to you. You can just send me a check for what you think they are worth to you (plus shipping) once you see them. If you don't want them then, just ship them back. Good to see another '41 fastback being saved. Dave
  14. Tried the website registration. Quick and easy. It works great! Thanks
  15. Dave, Kevin Kerbitz of GM (and also of the Buick Heritage Foundation) said the GM would be interested in the wagon for display in the Durant-Dort Carriage Factory No. 1, currently being restored by GM. It's located on Water Street in Flint, across from the restored Durant-Dort Office Building. I can get you in contact with him if you are interested. Dave
  16. Hey Joe "The Old Guy", don't forget that it was you that got the Buick Bug in running shape for the first national meet, and drove it around the parking lot. I have photo's to prove it.
  17. I also have a set of these BCCA newsletters as I was a BCCA member (I believe my membership # was 545). The BCCA went bust around 1965 (I believe Pete did an article in a past Bugle about the BCCA). Not too long after that, I received a letter from California asking if I wanted to join a new Buick group being formed to be known as the BCA. I held off joining a couple of years to see if the new club would make a go of it. (Looks like it did!) Hence my BCA number of 2098. I originally joined the BCCA because of my 1941 Buick, purchased in 1963 as my daily driver, which I still have. A few years later I saw an ad in "Old Cars" and an article in the Bugle about a BCA national show being put together by Terry Dunham in California and Bud Cline in Flint , to be held at Buick headquarters in Flint. I sent a photo of my car to Terry, asking if he thought it would be OK to enter it in the show. I received a nice letter from Terry telling me to bring it "for sure". To make a long story short, that first national BCA meet was the starting point for the formation of the Buicktown Chapter in early 1972 (Just ask the "Old Guy").
  18. No answer on the discussion forum for this question, maybe it will show up on the Board of Directors meeting minutes when they get updated on the Publications part of the forum.
  19. Under the heading "PUBLICATIONS" on the BCA website, The BOD Minutes, October 2013-July 2014, item 10 (March 2014), the motion to provide a $5000 scholarship was presented and then amended to read five-$1000 scholarships (according to the published minutes of e-mail BOD motions). The motion was then voted upon, and passed 6 to 3. When and how did it get changed back to one $5000 scholarship?
  20. While on the subject of Buick fire apparatus, I ran across this photo quite some time ago. It's a 1933 Buick that was converted into a hook and Ladder truck. The photo was not clear enough to make out the fire department, but I thought it was interesting anyway.
  21. Don't wait for your number. Join us at our next club meeting in November and our Christmas party in Dec. You can find the time and place in the Oct. issue of our news letter "Buicktown Crier" on our chapter web site. Welcome aboard!
  22. Bill, well said. Concise and to the point! I plan on being there. Dave
  23. This is our '41 at last years Sloan Museum Auto Fair in Flint, MI. It's the same one I've owned since 1963. Pearl Gray and Black. It was at the first National BCA meet in Flint, 1971.
  24. Peter, nice job on the photo's. Still need help with the link to the Board of Directors Motions Oct 13 to July 14 under the "Publications" section. Still get an ERROR 404 message with this link. Is it something with my computer? Thanks
